Makes a change from the usual angle that it's a good place for sad old people to get dates.
A while ago we had the BBC arrange to film in one of our venues. A lovely lady called Gay who is a regular at our classes has recently become a celebrity, appearing in many of the daily papers, on breakfast TV and in many magazines. It all started when there was an article about her money saving ways in the local paper. Within days she was famous!
The Money Programme has filmed her for a programme titled "Slumpbusters" that goes out on BBC2 next Thursday, 28th November 2008 at 7.30pm. It looks like it's only broadcast in England - perhaps it goes out at other times in Scotland, Wales and N.I.
The producers filmed her because she's a retired lady who has found many ways to save money and only spends a few pounds a year on gas and electricity. They told me that most programmes about pensioners saving on heating bills start with a black and white film of someone shivering under blankets because they can't afford to put on the heating. Gay's life is nothing like this and, among other things, she uses the money she saves to come dancing. So they filmed her dancing as a way of introducing her and being different.
This filming wasn't done at one of our regular classes and was set up especially. However, it was filmed in one of our regular venues. I don't expect that people will be flocking to our classes having seen it, but it's brilliant to have dancing promoted as something that "Slumpbusters" do with the money they've saved.

You wait until you see Gay. She's nothing like the "sad old people" you're thinking about. She's probably the most sexy and vivacious grandma you've ever seen
I'm sure that's one of the reasons she's been on TV so much. She's nothing like you'd expect from a retired lady
