I don't think the price is bad either. After all its meant to be a luxury MJ weekend, nice hotel, gala dinner etc. Its aiming to be a different weekender for a different end of the market. Good to see people trying something different.

    absolutely

I can't make it unfortunately as I have already booked for a long swing weekend (Friday pm to Monday lunchtime) in WSM the following weekend

We all know what fab events Dave & Val put on, plus Bill & Bex are such lovely friendly people and I have never had a bad night at Twyford, so I think the combination is a true AWESOME FOURSOME

Personally I don't really like the really big weekenders and the RockBottoms style of weekender is more appealing to me. I do like my creature comforts as well, and a class act in terms of teachers and DJ's so this would tick all the boxes for me, and it's not the kind of thing that would come cheap. The only other thing to ensure is that there would enough mates there so I didn't feel awkward, and there's already plenty of those. Oh, and the guarantee of some tasty dancing of course! At that price I would expect every dance to be heaven - no pressure of course.

I think the collaboration between Bill & Bex and Val & Dave indicates that the event should be a massive success and a great experience.

I´m not sure I´ve ever willingly listened to Peter Gabriel or any other musician masquerading as an archangel, but I do appreciate that given what people have heard me play at the old T-Jive and some of my classes they might associate my music choices with stuff that is at the edges of ´mainstream´in either tango or jive. But that is because both my classes and freestyles have generally catered for those who are likewise at the edges of mainstream jive/tango culture, and are advertised as such.

For this milonga set however, the music choices will be very much guided by the accepted cannon of tango music as played in Milongas around Buenos Aires, and by extension the rest of the world. This being a mix of traditional orchestras Di Sarli, Calo, Canaro, De Angelis etc, with occasional sets of new recordings, milonga, valtz and alternative, organised into sets of four or three tracks depending on genre, and seperated by ´cortinas´, but nothing that isn´t well tried and tested on existing tango dance floors.

Anyway, if this isn´t what either the organizers or attendees are expecting for a ´Milonga´ set then there is time to let me know and I won´t be offended by hearing about it.

Otherwise I´m going to assume that the set should reflect a sample of the popular tracks played at popular Milongas

    And of course some Prodigy.

Blimey, Amir, compared to some of the weird stuff played at the end of Negracha's last night, I'd have been ecstatic with Peter Gabriel

Unless you guys are talking about cortinas, it sounds like they played a set of Rock n Roll music, which isn't unusual at some traditional milongas, where you'll see the oldest milongeros suffle up and do a version of jive called 'Rock Argentino' which is kind of an local version of east coast swing. You've probably seen Miguel Zotto do his take on it in 'Tango por Dos'.

Since you'll get music for Ceroc in every other room at the weekend I'm not planning any for the Milonga set. There will be two sets of Valz, one of Milonga (unless no-one dances to the first of these) two sets of electronic/alternative tango and all the rest traditional, Di Sarli, De Angelis, Tanturi, De Agustino, D'Arienzo, Fresedo, Pugliese, Calo and like I said earlier, D'Prodigy.

What I'll avoid is the more melodramatic tango which is often recorded with your ears in mind, but not your feet.

I'm letting you know so you can complain now if that isn't what you want, instead of after when its too late!

Crikey, Drathzel, you're obviously wearing him out. Living together, what, 2 months and already he's offering to pay for you to leave him alone?

Re: Lux - the Utopia luxury weekend

I'm really looking forward to this weekender too .

At the moment it seems the poll is around 50% teachers/DJs which sounds fantastic but also a bit scary . My ambition is to get a dance with Franck and Lucky and hopefully the classes will not be as huge as at normal weekenders. Loads of classes and freestyles, no cooking/washing up, comfy beds and no need to change shoes - what's not to like!

Surely more people are going ?
