It's one of those events that you can't run too often along with the fact that we can only have our regular venue only on the occasional spare 5th Friday in a month during a calender year (normally twice a year). But it no doubt will make another appearance next year.
It's not your fault - I think the food has improved beyond all recognition. My recollection from 2004 when I last went was that the food was pretty poor, but I was very impressed by the food at the RB just gone (in Torquay).
Also true of everyone else who goes. Great atmosphere, great dancers. For the record the Rock Bottoms crew were some of the friendliest people I have ever met
Anyway a posh weekender can only be good news
Rocky - any idea whether this is a practical weekender for people with small children? It was great that the RB Torquay venue is pretty child friendly which made it possible for us to go.
S'alright... I have my copy on my solid gold coffee table* in front of me, so it was easy for me to spot, dahlink
*Actually, I fibbed. I don't have a coffee table... I have a serf (with a very flat back) on all fours in front of the sofa.... I'm not going to mention what I use as a magazine rack....
Hi David, I'm afraid it's not really suitable for small children. On one side UTOPIA by definition is a more adult theme and on the other the Hotel is not really geared up to be child friendly as it is more a business hotel than a destination hotel. There is the swimming pool on site and next door there is an ice skating and skiing/snowboarding leisure complex - but then if you spend your days entertaining the kids as opposed to doing the classes it's not really going to be value for money for you.
As I mentioned previously, we do hope to make a limited number of workshop and freestyle packages available once the residential sales make the weekend viable, and maybe these would suit you better?
Sorry I can't be of more help at this stage and hope you appreciate that we're not trying to be obstructive but just need to make sure the event meets the needs of the majority of people that we think it will appeal to.
Fair enough. I don't think the theme is hugely relevant (Katie would be in bed anyhow), but it is quite important for the hotel to be geared up for it - there was a steady stream of parents getting milk put in / taken out of the hotel fridge at Torquay!
Rest of my comments not to be taken as arguing with you, but simply to give our experience of what is/isn't practical doing a weekender with a toddler.
In point of fact, the experience from Rock Bottoms is that spending the day entertaining the kids is pretty much inevitable unless you bring a babysitter. Having a swimming pool is definitely a nice extra in that respect. There is the swimming pool on site and next door there is an ice skating and skiing/snowboarding leisure complex - but then if you spend your days entertaining the kids as opposed to doing the classes it's not really going to be value for money for you.
You can entertain the kids and still be able to socialise, which to be honest is what most weekender veterans do during the day anyhow.
For us, that's unlikely to work, to be honest. What we ended up doing was that once Katie was in bed, I'd stay with her and Bryony would go out dancing until she got tired, and then we'd swap over. Which worked reasonably well except we never got to dance together. So having accommodation where Katie could sleep was pretty much essential. As I mentioned previously, we do hope to make a limited number of workshop and freestyle packages available once the residential sales make the weekend viable, and maybe these would suit you better?
In effect, what we ended up doing was a normal "family holiday weekend" with the added bonuses of (a) having lots of people there we knew, and (b) being able to get in some dancing in the evening. No, it's not the same as a normal weekender experience, but we did really enjoy it nonetheless.
Sure.Sorry I can't be of more help at this stage and hope you appreciate that we're not trying to be obstructive but just need to make sure the event meets the needs of the majority of people that we think it will appeal to.
I think I heard that it is Bracknell (near the M25/M3) but the price was a little too high for me.
Around £250pp which with food, hotel and great music is an excellent price but probably not for me.
Just to let you all know that the LUX site goes live first thing Monday morning (available through the main UTOPIA site). It's very comprehensive so will tell you everything you need to know and also includes details on prices and a full teacher/Dj line up and schedule.
That said, unfortunately the new deposit based on-line booking system has delayed us slightly and booking will now be open this Friday the 5th.
Details now up - I think I have died and gone to dance heaven. It sounds absolutely fantastic.
Great Website: Lux
You sure that you've got the pricing right? £269 per person in a double or twin room sounds very expensive, especially when the hotel itself will do you a two night Fri/Sat dinner + B&B, full use of health club etc. etc. for £109 per night room rate for two people.
As a single this is not one for me, even if I did have a dance partner I wouldn't be paying over £500 for the two of us to have a two night hotel break with some dancing. It will be interesting to see what the non accommodation rates are, they are going to have to be pretty high to stop people booking that option and contacting the hotel directly for the accommodation part.
You have not factored in the cost of hiring the ballrooms, these can very expensive.
As for booking the daytime option and paying for a room separately, I’m sure the organisers have thought of that and won’t sell the daytime option until the accommodation is sold
I really want to go just for Amir’s classes alone. Oh and I want to hear Zebra Woman’s set as well
