    Been busy working today for a change and i think most points have been covered by my wonderful Sis but i'll try and give you some examples;

    1. Not employable as just got married - could end up producing a baby.. maternity leave
    2. Not employable as have young children, will end up taking days off for sickness, school holidays etc
    3. Not employable as too good looking (thats women employers not male) women discriminate as well.
    4. Not employable as would not be able to work safely at night on own
    5. Doing the job in an executive position for a woman will normaly pay less to that woman than a man doing the same job
    6. Professional Football
    7. Professional Rugy
    8. Shaggin around for a woman and your a slut... shaggin around for a man your a hero

Thats just a few off top of my head.... x

I just got a 1 year contract to cover maternity leave. Not only do I get the job, but probably earn at least twice what she was getting (not because I'm a man, but because of freelance rates).

Exactly. Employers not only have to keep a job open for something like 2 years to a woman on maternity leave, but they also have to pay a freelance contractor double money, just to get the work done.

Then after the two years the woman can either say she's not coming back or demand part time/flexitime/unlimited unpaid leave, etc, until the child is 6.

Now, being a woman with kids, this is all great for me & I have taken advantage of these regulations, but as I said, it puts people off employing women who might be thinking of or who have kids.

You see, people like you are making matters worse because there are "recognised" football and rubgy leagues for ladies and have been for many years.

So by "recognised" you mean paid a fortune, behaving badly and constantly in the media?
I couldn't give a fat rat's 4rse about any kind of football, but I know that there's a ladies league and if I remember correctly, the England ladies team does considerably better than the mens.
I suspect that for anyone with an interest in ladies football or rugby, their leagues are quite well "recognised".

I'm not sure when it legally ceased to be. Barry might know.

Females had no legal rights over their children or property or body.

Legally they were owned by their father.
On marriage they were owned by their husband.
If their husband died before them, then they were owned by their son.

"Troublesome" women were packed off to the Insane Asylum, Convent, or murdered. Often they were "walled up" in there own home to die.

Rubbish. AFAIK there has only been one law passed since WWII which was retrospective, that is, it applies to events that happened before the statute came into force. (And no, I can't remember which one it is.)

Passing such a law now would almost certainly breach the HRA since you cannot protect yourself against breaching laws which have not yet been passed.

I'm sorry, but this is complete nonsense. There's a contract of employment in effect from the minute the employer offers and the candidate accepts the position. If there's any doubt about that a contract of employment is unavoidably in existence when the new employee turns up for work on the first day.

You think a person can provided labour and services and a company can provide pay, benefits, holidays, pay NI and income tax, all for 12 months before a contract comes into existence?
