Interesting to read the story of how this was recorded. Eg. how the session players found out an hour before that this was going to be recorded - and then demanded their fare share. They were a bit pissed off with the situation and did not play as well as normal. I prefer individual singles from this great artist. Shame that you never get to hear a Bowie track at Ceroc/MJ except for remixes of Let's Dance.......

A catholic and eclectic selection - especially Beefheart. Is that the first mention of Don Van Vliet on the forum? Crikey!

Strange that Ingenue hasn't really stood the test of time. It was zeitgeist-y when it came out......

Appearances can be deceptive (as I'm sure the forumites who know me will testify; don't all rush at once!) - but thanks.

What do I keep returning to?
    Pretzel logic - Steely dan
    Mirage - Camel
Abbey Road - Beatles (Sarge Pep? It was never referred to like that when I was 'in the trade'...)
Waiting for a miracle - Comsat angels
    Elvis Costello
    Black sea - XTC
He to He - who am the only one - van der Graaf Generator
    Kilimanjaro - The teardrop explodes!
    Crisis? What crisis? - Supertramp
    Queen II
Stick to me - Graham Parker
Back in the USA - The MC5

    ...and finally...

the incomparable Selling England by the pound and The lamb lies down on Broadway - Genesis
    and
    the mighty Yes Album

all the above are records or CDs that have spent more than their fair share of time bending the airwaves in the rooms I have lived in over [cough] and more years...

Hey. I think all girls go through a poster-boy phase of musical appreciation...

Mm, just the one? I never put posters up or anything though, just appreciated their music... and still do! Crazy Shark's reminded me I used to like the Backstreet Boys for a while as well (though that's definitely past tense). I'm not really helping my cause am I?

Perhaps I should have mentioned Springsteen and his original version is good. It's just that I like the Patti Smith version so much more.

Re: Albums and artists you were obsessed by (and still rate now)

I didn't really have any favorite music when I was at school. I didn't have enough individuality back then, didn't want to stand out from the crowd and listened to what everyone else was listening to. That was a mixture of Mod, Ska , Metal and Punk.. all fairly passable but nothing really "grabbed me" so to speak.

Then I went to College and started mixing with different people and their eclectic musical tastes. I got myself a little Sony Discman and a couple of CD's second hand from a friend wo was having a "grant crisis"

The first CD I'd ever heard.. coupled with the first time I'd ever heard this artist*
blew me away. The Artist? PINK FLOYD The albums? Dark side of the Moon and The Wall.

I "graduated" from Floyd to other bands.. they were a stepping stone to a bigger more acoustically challenging world. These days I love YES, ELP, Jethro Tull, Egg, Van Der Graff Generator, EARLY Genesis, King Crimson, Hatfield & the North, Wishbone Ash,Barclay James Harvest.. etc etc etc

    Anything epic and complex really

These days I still listen to classical, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Pop, Punk, Metal.. even been known to sing a long with a little Eminiem

*Not exactly true.. I'd heard "Another brick in the wall' when it was in the charts but back then ,when taken out of context, it was "just a catchy tune"

Never gets old. Still love it.
The Lamb.... on the other hand - that one was somewhat hit-&-miss for me.

Mmm. What else. In no particular order:
Cat Stevens - Tea for the Tillerman
    Rimsky Korsakov - Scheherezade
    Supertramp - Breakfast in America
Steeleye Span - Parcel of Rogues
Robert Plant - Principle of Moments
    Prince - Purple Rain
    Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
    Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes

There are many, many others, but those'll do for now.

Love all these too and seen some of most of them in concert, errrr dare I admit to Supertramp at a 'pop' festival in Buxton the early 70s. I was underage by the wayand hitchhiked with three of my friends...hippy days
Tori Amos is fab live as well and my favourite is 'Cornflake girl.' Still would love to see Prince live.
if you love the life you live then you'll get a lot more done

Was totally obsessed with David Bowie and still have every album of his, even some very obscure ones.

Michael Buble is fabulous to listen and dance to.

Barbra Streisand can make me cry, very soulful.

Marvin Gaye, Let's Get It On, one of the sexiest albums ever.

Love listening to soundtracks from a good musical at one time played Les Mis over and over and over............
