    Recommendations for child amusement

    Hi everybody!
If you have dealt with kids at weekenders and know the ropes, would you give me some pointers / any recommendations on keeping my little girl occupied during Bliss. Only during the day - she isn't going to be allowed into any dance venues after 9pm (hopefully will be fast asleep by then ). She is just under 7, very active, the DVDs and books aren't going to keep her still for long, and I am not looking at spending half the day in the swimming pool , so any ideas will be VERY welcome!

Who's going to be looking after her while you're dancing?

Well, Pontins are (of course) child-friendly, so if you look at the Pontins website for Camber Sands, you'll see what facilities are there.

Of course, there's no guarantee that any of the activities will be available - I suggest contacting Pontins directly for more information. It's possible they'll have some facilities available.

    Ummm.... don't take her?

Sorry, but if you look at the FAQ, it says:

Sorry, I know that's not helpful, but when you also consider that it's November - so outside activities may not be great - the swimming pool is the only real option.

On the plus side, kids love pools and can spend hours in them

This probably won't help you for Bliss , but...
Take parents, in-laws or a non-dancing partner with you. Or, better still leave them with one of the above.
I have 6 kids to consider and if one of the above is impractical (or unfair on the kids) I just accept that I can't go and plan for a weekender when I can; otherwise there's a good chance that either I'll have a sh1t weekender or the kid(s) will have a boring/cr4ppy weekend away. Good luck to you if you can manage it though.

Blimey, do you have me on ignore or something?

    The FAQ says:

    Can I bring children?

    Yes, providing they are yours!

To be honest the event is not children friendly and we do not advise that you bring them, but if you have no option then it is under the following provisos:

Children are required to pay full price and they will be issued with appropriate wrist bands when they arrive on site just as the adults.

We would ask that no children under the age of 11 are permitted into any dance venue unless accompanied by an adult and supervised at all times. And in any event no children under the age of 11 are allowed to be in any dance venue beyond 10pm.

    Short Story ...
Sadly, my childcare arrangements fell through, and I can't leave my daughter with relatives/non-dancing partners, etc, etc, etc...
As the Bliss was booked and paid for already, Ceroc (organisation) has kindly allowed me to take her with me.
I know pool is my best helper, but was wondering if anybody else had any ideas...

A few dancing parents with childcare issues club together and hire a nanny for the weekend? No, seriously.

Sure - I do sympathise, as do all of us. Most of us are parents and know what it's like.

But if it were me, I'd try to get my money back and go some other time...

    • As gav says, find out if any other kids are going? (Contact Ceroc)
    • As I said, contact Pontins directly? It's possible they have spare staff available, or at least they'll have some suggestions?

    Although I'm not a parent.

But what are you going to be doing in the evenings nebula? You can't leave a 6 year old in a chalet unaccompanied at night. No matter how well behaved she is, it's a recipe for disaster. So does this mean that you are not going to be dancing in the evenings but stuck in a Pontins chalet with her?

Sorry, but this sounds like a recipe for a dismal weekend for both of you.

If you decide not to go, I believe that S38 is looking for a ticket

yes i agree to be honest. I know its harsh but i have a 6 yr old and i would't leave him with nobody. Its not a recepie for an enjoyable weekend. I would sell and get ready for the next one. Sorry Nebula.

S38 is indeed looking for tickets.... put 50% on top, he can afford it. LOl

Good luck sorting it out either way.

I'm looking too, but if you add 50% then Stewart can have it!

I had brought her with me last November to last Franco's event in Camber - and she was 1 year younger. We had an absolute ball! We came prepared with DVDs and pool was, of course, our bestest friend!
There were 3 of us in the chalet sharing, and we popped in once every half-hour or so to check that everything was allright.
Can't see it being any worse, now that she is 1 year older, and much more responsible.
And before I have to duck from rotten eggs and ripe tomatoes, I AM a responsible parent, with a very independent child, who has been desperate (and well behaved, and actually able!) to take care of herself since she was out of nappies.
Thank you all for suggestions - contacting Pontins directly will possibly be my best bet. Failing that, we still have lots and lots of DVDs and we still can go swimming for half-a-day!

    Re: Recommendations for child amusement

Well I have no choice but to take my little one and I think, although hes only 2 and 4 mths Bliss will be his 16th dance weekender (not including his rockabilly week in Italy).

He stays out in the evenings regualarly (done a couple of 2am finishes) although I admit he's been asleep in the buggy by that time. If she doesn't run around the dance floor and is hardly noticable then I'm sure she could stay in the dance venues later.

Otherwise I do have the details of a couple of local babysitters who may be available that I have used in the past. Given to me from the hotel next door.

He does love older girls, well just following them around really and I'm sure would love to meet yours.

Maddy is at Camber to baby sit, as she has stoped dancing at the moment, this could be a good in-road for her again.
