    Join me in a pledge!!!!!!!

I will pledge that I will never refuse a dance, unless toilet etc is a calling, and will do my best to get rid of this clique feeling that some people have raised as an issue.

I will pledge to dance with at least 3 people I have never danced with at every dance I attend.

I will pledge to endeavor to spread nothing but happiness and love in this hobby that I adore so much.
    Who is with me?

    Any more pledges are welcome.

Let us try to make this hobby of our's non intimidating to newcomers, and if we see someone being uncomfortable lets do our best to make them feel welcome and secure in our world of dance.

I will do this from now on to the best of my ability, either as a lone crusader or part of a, improve the image of dance community.

If it takes off we can have badges and stuff made. (joke), but you get my drift sport fans.

I think we should have a comp on who can dance with tmst strangers, bit like me and Steven666 did Kidderminster with how many dances in one night

And we reached 70 or so.

Then I did it again at Daventry reaching 101 dances in one night. I must have asked for at least 70-80 (& just 1 refusal) of those, mostly people I'd never seen before.

If I have the motivation, albeit in short supply at the moment, I'll do it at any venue.

I will tell you why I ask because most of your posts are of the doom and gloom, and snippy one liners variety. Sean you seem to be constantly moaning and bitching on this forum.

    Why are you on here?

Mate try a bit of luvvie duvvie happiness, you might actually enjoy it.

I really love the idea of this pledge and there is part of me that really wants to join you in this. However I'm not sure I am in the right place emotionally to be able to.

My Ex really knocked myself confidence out of me and made me a vary wary person, I'm gradually digging the old me out of the bottom of the big hole it's buried in, with the help of my lovely man and good friends like you, but I'm not there just yet. However, when I am I will join you whole heartedly!

It's nice that DTS has made this pledge. It's something that comes naturally to me at dance nights. However, I think it is wrong to put pressure on people to do the same. Being nice and being inclusive and dancing with everyone simply doesn't come naturally to some people. It doesn't mean they are not nice. It just means they don't have a clue about scaffolding

I pledge to follow the pledge that Martingold pledged to pledge that DTS's pledge was just about the best uber-pledge to make.....

Seriously, its a great idea DTS - the best vibe I can get sometimes is the look of delight on a beginner's face, as they get the move right and go into more moves with me, showing the confidence that leads to a dance addiction!!

Just in case anyone takes this seriously - using furniture polish on a dance floor can be dangerous : we were very nearly banned from a venue after a 'Mr Sheen' incident ! It gives very low friction, but looks just like the rest of the sticky floor.

Since then, the venue have applied a non-slip finish.

A tiny amount of Talcum Powder seems to give a controlled degree of slippiness on most surfaces - but test a tiny patch first. Add as little as you can and re-assess. If overdone, there is no easy way to remove it again. It is easy to top-up if you feel more is needed.

Back to the luvvy bitching, folks ...

If the floor's 'really' sticky, try using a bit of Mr sheen on the soles of your shoes! It works! But it can also be quite lethal, if you over do it!

Here's a question. Something that has always puzzled me re. male dance gods.

    a) do they expect the learner follow to ask them?
    b) should the learner follow wait to be asked?
    c) does it depend on the individual male dance god?

Although, It might well work on suede too, if its at the 'shiny' stage but I don't want someone to risk it and blame me!

we have been told that any alteration of the floor not done by the venue owners or their staff would lead to insurance problems and that includes talc

Re: Join me in a pledge!!!!!!!

I'll agree with the pledge on dancing with lots of new people. Will be harder in regular venues I go to, but easy at weekenders as I rarely know many people there.

Will agree with Fletch about the glove man...never really felt I could refuse people a dance before, but now I realise people do, I think I've got just cause!
