Regional DVD problems on my laptop

I have a travel laptop, a small Sony Vaio, which I am very happy with.

The thing is, I travel a lot and like to buy DVD's to watch, in various countries.

The DVD's often come with a regional restriction, which is fair enough, but as I have a laptop and have bought that DVD in that region I think I should be able to watch it.

My Laptop tells me I have 5 goes at changing regions to view the DVD's and after that it will be perminantly set to one region.

Is there a work around for this?

I get the same message on my 5 year old Excel laptop, running XP, my 6 month old Del laptop running xp, as I do on my 4 month old Sony vaio running vista.

I thought about setting each one to different regions, but I would prefer not to travel with 3 laptops just to watch movies that I buy locally.

Download AnyDVD, it will allow you to "switch off" the region restriction. It runs in the background so, once set, you can ignore it. It also allows you to "back-up" your restricted DVDs.

VLC will play any DVD without caring about the region setting, I believe.
