    Wink Yeah right!

!!!Long & boring story warning!!! stop reading now if you're expecting to be entertained.

Inspired by a post by DS, which he shouldn't have posted and he's a very naughty smurf, I remembered a similar incident of poor professionalism that made I laff.

I had been with an insurance company for a few years and, long story short, they'd behaved poorly so I cancelled my direct debit and took up insurance with another company.
Then they contacted me and insisted that I had to pay it all.
I ignored them and this went on for about 6 months.
Eventually, I decided to pay up and sent a cheque for over £400.

A couple of weeks later I got a very polite letter explaining that they couldn't find my account details and could I please send them another cheque with my full reference numbers etc so they could take my money!

Needless to say I laughed and threw it in the bin.

So, the adverts are true Churchill did save me money.
(oops, is that naming and shaming? )

Anyone got any similar experiences they can share (without naming and shaming of course).

Just for reference: the insurance premium for almost any policy is an annual premimum and payable in full when the policy goes 'on risk'. Spreading the payment over a number of months is a (very common) concession made by the insurer and does not imply that you can cancel the policy after 6 months and withhold the remaining payments.

The likelihood that policies will not endure through to the end of the contractual risk period is one of the things the actuaries take into account when working out the overall level of risk that the insurer is taking on.

I'm aware of that and was aware of it at the time, but it was the only way I could get them to talk to me about their appalling handling of an incident.

Yep! Interrupting cash flow is a guaranteed way to get the attention of pretty much any major company

I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

I have come across many people who think that paying for car insurance by monthly direct debit is like paying your BT bill that way.

    And it ain't.
