    East Coast Jive - 7-9 November 2008

A few weeks away yet (6 and counting) , anyone booked to attend this event?

I wasn't able to book the hotel accommodation package so I wondered if anyone had any recommendations for a decent hotel/B&B within a reasonable walking/driving distance of the Spa Complex.

Also if anyone has attended previous events would you like to comment on how it was for you?

    Cheers

Gosh..................... I think there are more weekenders this weekend than any other weekends this year (in one weekend)

Have we got a poll to see who is going where ?

We stayed in the one literally across the road, it was part of the package then but I don't think it is this time, not sure prices etc, but it was really convenient (we didn't have a car).

Went to a couple of these - the two Feb ones (before SP became the Feb one). As with the smaller weekenders, I tended to do more classes, and its easier to find people for dances etc. I really enjoyed the ones I went to.

The venue is lovely, big windows looking out over the sea, and if you fancy a break between classes its nice to go out for a stroll.

We have been to the last 2 scarborough events.

Great Venue with stunning views. Good Hotels. It is more like a Rockbottoms event where you socialise at meal times etc.

Worth a walk along the rugged coasline and a visit to Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby for shopping.

With the ever popular WCS & Tango on the Agenda it should be good.

Thumbs up Re: East Coast Jive - 7-9 November 2008

This was my very first weekender a few years ago and I loved it - stunning scenery (keep meaning to go back and have a decent look round), great dancing and got my picture taken with Jimmy Saville - now then, now then, how's that for a great weekend!

Re: East Coast Jive - 7-9 November 2008

Received the pass and schedule of lessons in the post yesterday, really looking forward to this weekend.

Quite a few opportunities to try Argentine Tango, after reading the latest threads about Tango I am keen to have a go but with zero experience I think I will limit it to just the initial workshop - I think that if I come away with at least an idea on connection then I will be making progress.

Managed to book into The Grand Hotel (being refurbished during the day but I expect to be busy elsewhere).

Hopefully get a chance to say hello to any forumites attending - I will be the woman falling over herself during the Tango workshop!!!

    Cheers

I saw a few somewhere and I have got to say it looks pretty empty for a weekend event - are the photos deceiving or was it really that sparsely attended?

Most of Sean's photos were taken late on Sunday evening and by then it was thinning out. Still enough folk to dance with though. The other eves were much busier.

We were in the Ambassador Hotel and were a bit dismayed to find our room was in the basement. However, the state of the art bathroom made up for it and it did mean that we could walk to the pool in just our cosys and towels It would have been nice if the shower had more than one temperature (scalding hot) though. The plumber was unable to fix it so we were given a key to a spare room on the top floor so we could use the shower there - so that was a bit of a drag. But the room was really quiet so for a very light sleeper like me it was perfect (apart from the shower). The food was good too and it wasn't far from the cliff lift which takes you right to outside the venue.

Overall I had a fantastic weekend and met some lovely folk including Jan from Notts. I think these sort of weekenders suit me much more than 1500 capacity Pontins events these days. Maybe I'm just getting old!

(OMG - I have just written a review!)

From what I remember from the ones I went to a lot of people go as a Fri - Sun weekend - saves an extra day off work. We always stayed til the Mon as with a flight to take into consideration, going home on Sun would mean leaving too early on the Sunday.

My review of the weekend was one of the posts that got lost during the downtime . Would like to repeat that I had a great time, and recommend it as a more relaxed and friendly weekend but with plenty of opportunities for great dances and lots of interesting workshops.

    Cheers
