Me too. Well - either still around in St. Albans - or spinning around the haldron collider after being sucked into it following an adverse reaction* - after someone presses the wrong button (eg. turbo mode).

I mean - the guys were getting pissed on champagne after switching the machine on. Should they really be doing that when the future of the universe is at stake?

    * Hoping there are no Big Pharma scientists working on this project - otherwise there might be a few unforseen side effects

Here's a helpful web site just in case you're worried the world has ended without you noticing...

There’s an RSS feed too, for you geeks out there who want always up-to-date news of the world's end.

Pete Murphy? He was a bit too serious for Dead Or Alive, matey.

Any goff kno that Pete Murphy was the lead singer of Bauhaus (remember Bela Lugosi's Dead?) and also famous for the "Blown Away" Maxell tape advert of the 80s.

You're thinking of plastic surgery supremo Pete Burns.

The best bit is reading the page source.

Here's a sample to whet your appetite:

Yes - I have been in a kind of Germanic mood all day - under the influence of the collider.

They did look quite similar at one point.........didn't they?

Inspired by the LHC project, I decided to try a Small Hadron Collider at home.
Errrr, I don't want to worry anyone, but I might've turned it up a bit high...

That sounds about right when they first force the two beams to collide, and then we will know if the universe will end

I have to say I was very disappointed with the coverage

Surely they could have found one scientist somewhere??

The analogy with the mince pies was good (BBC ?)

Sky showing the Times guy asking ‘how did you feel’ etc … Yes I know he is a scientist what a crap question

I appreciate lots of people wont understand what’s happening but some dumb down explanations and accuracies would have been helpful

In case the world does end on October 21st, I wonder if we could put together a sealed capsule of important items and send them into space to a distant galaxy.

It would contain important items of MJ/Ceroc history:

    - DVD of Southport 2007
    - a pair of Bloch dance shoes
    - talcum powder
    - a CD with 'Stuck on you' and 'Spanish Guitar'
    - posts from the forum about aerials
    - Fletch's bra

    ...........dunno - anything else important?

Hey Gav, have you seen CERN's webcams here? They've got 2 active at the moment & they show the scientists experimenting with the LHC. It might give you inspiration to get it right...

    That is wicked!

My daughter's teacher finally managed to calm her down by pointing out that if there was any chance the world was going to end, there's no way she would be wasting her time at work.

Re: Yippeee - the world didn't end...

So - hackers have infiltrated the LHC......they are from Greece.

Hackers infiltrate Large Hadron Collider systems and mock IT security - Telegraph

They say they had no intention of interfering with the experiments - but they just wanted to show CERN with it's trousers down. Well - that could be a lot more than an eyefull by all accounts. (Especially if you see the name for the LHC given by the New York Times - see below).

Apparently they are looking for a new name for the Large Haldron Collider. There is a £500 first prize. (With all the creativity on this forum you'd think someone would come up with a good one).

One reason for this is that it is seen as not a very exciting name. And, it was a bit embarassing when the New York Times called it the 'Large Hardon Collider'

(see the bottom of column 1) http://largehardoncollider.com/nyt_lhc.html

hang on a minute.... so,, what we had on Sept 10th wasn't a full powered beam? It will only be done on full energy on 21st October?

I read that they will turn up the energy levels up on 21st.. and that last week was just a switch on and a test, in which the beam made a full journery around the tunnel in a clock wise direction.

The major one is being done in 5 years time. Each winter the LHC will be switched off.

Now this is strange.. but a few years ago, scientists predicted that the world was coming to an end in 2012.. either by human hands or that god might really be the one to press the stop button.

If by "scientists", you're referred to the New Age doomsday cult based on the Mesoamerican Long Count Calendar, then you're correct. However, that's a fairly loose definition of "scientist" IMO .

On October 21st CERN - the largest centre of particle physics research in the world, will officially unveil the LHC and try to collid the particles (proton) in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).This “Big Bang ” collision will recreate conditions just a billionth of a second after the big bang and in the process will release enormous amount of energy which is almost uncontrolable and never attempted before.

If any thing goes wrong nobody will be there to see HOW THE UNIVERSE WAS MADE ?

I know it's absolutely pathetic! Why risk doing such an experiment to the extent that we may all get sucked into a black hole.. and they may never see the actual results they want

I notice that was your 6666th post. Is that the devil gone in to overdrive.

    Could you be the one*?

The thing is that if it does go pear shaped (or more likely blancmange shaped) then....we're all in it together. The collective unconscious melding into one gooey mass swirling through the universe like a hot shot on heat....

    * ie the one who makes a desperate last minute dash to CERN to try and stop it - but who ends up pressing the wrong button after breaking into the control room - and BOOM!

Well the chances of it actually happening are really really low.

Just keep on checking this site hasthelargehadroncolliderdestroyedtheworldyet.com

    Especially after the 21st.
