    Back on thread

Gender imbalance has a number of issues and potential ways of resolving it but one point

I understand that if WCS is to evolve they need to encourage more men to come through the ranks ?

How about a basic WCS class for just men (re history of WCS really basic foot work etc, almost 1 teacher to 5 people type approach)

I walked out of WCS class as I couldn’t really get it and got frustrated it didn’t seem beginners to me. If you have done years of basic jive its very easy to let the frustration get the better of you and give up

Maybe a group of 20 men for 1/2 hr type stuff . a intro to WCS before the ‘intro’

Alternatively 6 WCS classes through the weekend like they have done for beginners to ceroc/jive.

I really don't agree with this.
As has already been said I think Ceroc should stick to what they do best and let JA continue with the WCS inclusion.
Ceroc did try having a dedicated room at Camber while I was teaching WCS for them. Although the workshops were really busy and really popular the turnout of people in the WCS room was woeful. About 14 people max
I still have great respect for the fact that they tried but, without other infrastructure, it just didnt work.

Ceroc just wont pull enough WCS dancers if JA have got U.S WCS pro's too. After all, JA have built up a reputation for WCS, run other WCS events etc. They are now associated with WCS. If Ceroc tried to do the same it would render a big room like the Latin Quarter a redundant space IMO.

And, of course, the fact that the Latin Quarter is a dark, smelly, pit of a room doesnt help either.

Hmmm, make an entire room inaccessible to MJers at an MJ weekender?

Sounds like a good plan to me

Seriously, I always love the Latin Room also, but I have to admit it's the least-used room. Calling it the Swing Room might be a good idea. But as JiveAddiction are more the WCS guys, this is more like a "What would you like to see JA do at SP" thing than a "What would you like Ceroc to do at SP" thing.

    Errr... how?

I would also run a fun JnJ during the day or something. I hate comps, but a lot will love that.

External/independant teachers a cut above would be a good idea even for normal Ceroc weekenders, for the type of weekender Ceroc are talking about making Southport, they are a must.
    Yes.

I remember that as I spent a good bit of time in there, was really trying to work on my WCS. If I remember rightly Paul you even had a 'recap' session to try to draw people in to practice - and yes, people came in then but didn't stay for long! Several times there were literally only 3 people in there - including myself and the DJ. I don't think a WCS room at a Ceroc weekender would work and it would take too much away from those wanting to do MJ.

How about a Wii competition. :P Stick on a bunch of Wii games (Mario Kart, Wii Sports, Guitar hero etc..) Seems a bit different and fun too. Maybe even one of those dance mat games.

    That's my view also.

Although I remember getting aggro just a few days ago for pointing out that JA are indeed becoming "the WCS people"

Yeah. It's just not realistic for a Ceroc weekender.

Yes - more to the point, at a Ceroc weekender.

I think a "Swing room" might be a good idea to try for Eclipse though.

Hmmm, maybe someone should start an "Eclipse suggestions" thread?

Well there's the solution then, rename the Latin Quarter as the 'Geek Pit'.

Certainly a common issue at WCS events in the UK is an abundance of followers compared to leads (tho' you could say the same about MJ events that are not artificially gender balanced)

Some good suggestions you made S38, I won't re-quote them, but I do sense that there are currently lots of men who do participate in beginner classes whether at workshops, weekenders or regular classes but then do not dance much, if any, of the subsequent freestyle. Why this should be I don't know.

    Re: New Southport suggestions

There's been a lot of comments about how this event can't do just what JA have done, and should be true to its Ceroc roots. Sure, and then we can all criticise Ceroc for ignoring us forumites, and the mythical "Advanced Dancer".

If Ceroc want to make a great weekender, that will appeal to the people that currently rave about JA's Southport, they should redraw the border for the weekend, put Southport in Scotland and put Franck in change of "Ceroc Scotland's Blaze weekender in Southport".

Blaze has had a Big Forum Gathering.

Blaze has had big-name US WCS Pros.

Blaze has had independent UK teachers and DJs.

Blaze has had coherent music policies for its rooms.

    Blaze hasn't had pub quizzes.

Blaze has taught lots of MJ classes – at all levels.

As there isn't going to be another Blaze weekender in Scotland due to the lack of a venue, Southport could become a little bit of Scotland 3 times a year.

I don't eat kebabs but I like the idea of bringing in external caterers. This could also be a great way of running a mass barbeque that appeals to all.

At a fit camp at Camber there was an all day stand serving burgers and sausages. It was very busy and nice food.

Weekenders as prizes for American competitors?

If WCS is kept as a focus. From what I understand dancers like the WCS Pro's to come from USA not only to teach but to dance and socialise.

To possibly increase the amount of dancers coming from the USA. How about forming links with comps in the USA and giving free economy flights and weekenders to the relevant level Jack and Jill competition winners. We love our weekenders so might they. It would be a good way to advertise them in the USA too and others could plan a stay during a tour of Britain.

Not quite - at least not from me.

My point was that Ceroc should focus more on Modern Jive, as JA are focussing more on WCS. Focussing on MJ doesn't mean that it has to be babytalk teaching.

Call me a suspicious old sod if you like but when JA had SP I dont actually recall so many negative posts,is it just a coincidence that Ceroc have just takin it over.

This venue has gone so far down hill since June, even Eddy The Eagle is thinking of a come back this winter.
Pontins is so Hi Di Hi, you should read Shane Ritchies days at Pontins, aint changed much!!
No Toilet Rolls provided (rumour has it there was enough sh.t before the weekend, it was used all up)
    No Towels in room
    No Sheets in room
    Everything dirty
    Dont look under the bed!
The settee was just black with dirt!!!
One chalet had running oil in their oven and boy did it stink when turned on
    Everything smelt bad!
The floors, when were they ever cleaned?
The carpet in the Main Dance room, was so black! Has it ever been cleaned this year.

I wonder if any one would dare do a sample of that venue or chalets.
They did one on a Underground Train seat a few years back, tests results were unblievable
Urine and all sorts, I bet this camp would add more to that test
I think all dancers should be vacinated, told the venue is a health risk AND everyone on arrival being given rubber gloves

    Such a dump
    Such a run down camp.
    Curtains rank
    Windows with unbelievable smears
    Tv's that dont work
The shower, we had a walk in one, it flooded the whole bathroom
AND it was one of the TOP chalets too, so what the cheap ones like, no I dont want to think, I saw one in June, now way!

One of the Pontins staff said due to cut backs, what the cleaners generally do, is when they open the chalet door after a guest (prisoner have better conditions in jail) leaves, if its looks tidy they go on to next one. They should go back but, well what do you think!
If someone is missing an item, they find a spare chalet and raid that and so on,
And the food, well forget that crap, Pontins food is Pontins food!!

Strange site of a coffin back stage too with 09 on it!! Wonder what it was doing there?
Best bits was the beach and that had cars being towed away after being bogged down...... were they escaping Pontins too or being held back?
In fact my room was so bad that I got an infection so bad that I died. Then to my luck a bite from a giant cockroach shocked me back to life shortly afterwards.

The damp and dirt caused me so suffocate and I died once again. Luck was once again on my side and the bad state of the room meant the ceiling collapsed and once again forced air and life into my now destroyed body.

I daren’t rest in the dire surroundings so once again died of exhaustion. Fortunately due to luck a time traveller happened along and transported me to a hospital in the future and fixed my room too. Thereafter I woke after my nap and went and had a fantastic weekend happy in the knowledge that someone had not arranged for me to have the worst room available or book me into the public toilets by mistake.

I was stating facts about this year. At Camber in Francos time, we used to request same rooms, like Fletch does. We would dirt mark on a wall as Nigel A one said he did, only to find it there 6 months later, a year later... We did with chalet 17, and it was there six months later, then the next year, wonder if its still there? Like many we put up with crap accommodation for an excellent dance weekender but this year Pontins have really cut back... and its should not be acceptable! Why should chalets be dirty and items missing!
