I think that was the innuendo...there was a big to do with John Ryan, who created the series following some reports in newspapers, I think it was in the 90s, which alleged that the characters had names like Master Bates, Seaman Staines but there were apparently no characters with these names, and the creator was payed compensation by the papers..............God I need to get out more
