16 inch marrow ... any suggestions?

This morning I acquired a 16 inch marrow that I can barely get my hands round. Now I am reluctant to throw away any food (and this doesn't have a sell by date unfortunately) but is there anything edible that can be done with it - apart from stuffing it! I need it to be as unlike a marrow as possible when it is cooked. Any suggestions (that are not rude) ? !!! (Or is it just too tempting .....)

I haven't got time to go into too much detail just now - maybe tomarrow?

I had exactly the same question a few weeks ago, after neglecting one of my courgettes - which subsequently become a marrow. The best solution I could find, was to peel it, then cut it crossways into 1cm rings, brush them with olive oil, sprinkle with a few herbs and BBQ! They were lovely!

Oh I say this has potential.

    16" Marrow gorgeous woman.

Shall I be the 1st to start the slippery slope of smut?

I have an idea... Turn up at mine. Naked mit beer and a 16" marrow, and I will show you a trick I learnt in the army.

I love Marrow and the best way to cook it AFAIC, is to peel it, removed all the middle bit with the seeds and chop it into inch squares. Place it in a microwaveable dish, with a lid, add some butter and little salt, loads of freshly ground black pepper and a few coriander seeds and most importantly absolutely NO water! Cook in microwave, until the marrow becomes translucent but still firm... and enjoy!

Sorry, I know its not 'un-marrow-like' but I think the reason people don't like it, is usually because they over cook it, in water, until its like a tasteless mush!

    100% it was overcooked!

It should still have a slight 'bite' to it. The second it starts to turn translucent, its done!

Re: 16 inch marrow ... any suggestions?

Rugby is fabulous but there were about a dozen women over so more men were needed as those who were there got very sweaty and exhausted by the constant demands on them . Kirk was missed as he can get through a fair few women in an evening ! However, the marrow (cool as a cucumber but better endowed) can last all evening ...........

Hammersmith - isn't that in London? Far too far ..... and I know you are just after my man/marrow!

I bought a massive marrow on the way home from work yesterday driving down country roads outside a private house- cost 50p

I poped into Sainsbury's before arriving home and bought some good quality mince.

Cut marrow lengthways, scoop out the seed then, fry up the mince add a tin of chopped tomatoes, add stock cube, herbs etc., some fresh peas and sweetcorn and fill the centre of the marrow then add dry cous cous, wrap in tin foil and put in oven.

Something like that I am one of those cooks who thinks on her feet and doesn't follow recipes - usually turns out OK

Sorry hun, financially restrained for a while . Rest assured though, the next time we meet you're high on my 'hit list'

And coincidently, I'm about to fire up my BBQ and cook a little marrow!
