    I'm guessing too, that the hours include such things as working out the choreography for the next week, attending other interviews, such as It Takes Two etc....yeah I could imagine that it would be pretty close to 16 hours a day?

    Re: Strictly Come Dancing (SCD) 2008

    Ah, i missed the bit where it says they actually work 16 hours a day, 7 days a week

    It also says this

    'The dancers have to choreograph their routines, sort out the music and teach and rehearse the celebrities, often travelling long distances.'

    So it does depend on whether you count travelling to work in it.* I was thinking that the choreography wouldnt last that long but i suppose that some of it is for dances that they dont really know much about - that would take longer. For a current celebrity who is working then the contact hours probably wont be a nice standard 9 until 5. They may have to do bits here and there - that is what i meant by the total length of the day. The series only lasts about 16 weeks, what are they doing for the earlier weeks?

    She also says the judges dont mix much with the dancers. If the judges did mix then there would be complaints about how they were getting on too well with certain people and giving them better results. A no-win situation?

    *This would also explain why they appear to be south-east based

    I have got the impression in the past that the dancers sometimes have had to 'follow' the celebs about to different parts of the UK as well, if the celebs have had work to do somewhere. I think the professionals have to fit in with where suits the celebs to do dance practice so it might be a bit more than your average 'travelling to work' stuff.

    Well they start practicing about what 4 weeks ahead of the show going live don't they, so that would add on another month?

    Agree it makes sense for them not to be too friendly with the judges - that would only lead to people saying the judges had favourites etc.

    How tall is Vincent?
    I think we can safely assume she'll not get Ian!

    My point really was that they were taking an extreme week and maybe being a little bit generous with it. It is a bit of a non-stop job regardless as no sooner is one week over then they have to look forward to the next saturday. There are the group dances they have to organise as well - i imagine that there must be some logistical nightmares going on

    Yes, i know that they dont go into the first week without having done anything. I was just wondering what all those weeks would involve. If it is going for 25 weeks then they must have started around the first week of july.

    Yes, it sounds like it - like they've taken one week and worked out that week they weren't earning much per hour, but overall it wouldn't be like that. And for all her complaining it sounded like she did want to do the show again and was disappointed not to be included.

    They don't even get to keep their costumes either.

    They are sold on and remoldeled for some other dancer or actor to wear.

    The costumes are custom made.

    The womens costumes are all one piece, built over a leotard that they step into.
    Hair and makeup are done first.
    The costumes go on just before they go on stage.
    They are not allowed to hang around back stage in their costumes.

    The men usually wear black trousers with some stretch in their trousers and have to wear black underwear in case they split on stage.

    You know, when I'm having a busy day at work picking the peas out of the M&S pasta, I'm really glad you're there to lend a hand with the bits of world news I might otherwise have missed.

    Vincent can't be much more than about 5ft 6/7 (I'm a shorty myself and danced with him at Southport in v low heels and he was about my height)

    Well, I'm sorry, but that's life.

    Dancers always get paid rubbish money, Nicole's old enough to know that.

    £17K actually sounds reasonably good to me, all things considered - I assume they get paid a flat fee, so if they drop out after 1 week, they're doing quite well out of it.

    And the fee is irrelevant - the reason all the professional dancers are dying to get on it is that is boosts their public profiles, which in turn boosts their earning power massively.

    So she's just whingeing, basically.

    .
    Yes, and I think I'd quite happily spend £17k for 25 weeks with Nicole (or equivalent) - learning to dance properly and stuff.

    I had assumed it would probably cost five or ten times that amount.

    Is there a market for people who want to do this?

    I was going to remind folks that we could start applying for tickets this morning, however, when I clicked on the link I got a page saying "Sorry, this service is currently unavailable". It seems as though it's a bit too popular!

    Re: Strictly Come Dancing (SCD) 2008

    Excellent. So we have (from the BBC press pack):

    TV presenter Christine Bleakley will be dancing with Matthew Cutler;
    model and TV presenter Jodie Kidd dances with Ian Waite;
    actress Cherie Lunghi is partnered by James Jordan;
    singer Rachel Stevens is joined by Vincent Simone;
    singer Heather Small will be dancing with new professional Brian Fortuna;
    TV presenter and model Lisa Snowdon will be dancing with Brendan Cole. Actress Gillian Taylforth is joined by Anton du Beke,
    and actress Jessie Wallace dances with Darren Bennett.

    For the men,
    TV presenter Andrew Castle will dance with Ola Jordan;
    actor Tom Chambers is partnered by Camilla Dallerup;
    actor Phil Daniels dances with Flavia Cacace
    Olympic swimmer Mark Foster dances with new professional Hayley Holt.
    Rugby star Austin Healey is partnered by Erin Boag;
    chef Gary Rhodes is joined by Karen Hardy;
    political broadcaster and journalist John Sergeant dances with new professional Kristina Rihanoff
    and actor Don Warrington joins Lilia Kopylova on the dance floor.

    So Vincent did get partnered with Rachel Stevens.
    Karen & Gary Rhodes looks interesting, and it's not surprising that Anton got the woman of a certain age again.

    And here's a good reason not to read the Daily Mail:
    Teddy Sheringham, John Sergeant, Rachel Stevens and Lisa Snowdon.... welcome to the new series of Strictly Come Dancing | Mail Online
    Cracking headline:
    Teddy Sheringham, John Sergeant, Rachel Stevens and Lisa Snowdon.... welcome to the new series of Strictly Come Dancing

    OK, here's my initial thoughts on it:

    Firstly, 14 week? 16 couples? Blimey...

    On the competitors:

    She'll get lots of votes from her capital radio stuff, I reckon - and she comes across quite well there, so she may actually have a personality as well as looks. Who knows...

    Interesting - maybe another Jill Halfpenny? Although I don't know if she has any dance experience...

    Meh.

    Overall impressions - the women are more attractive, but the men may be more competitive, once the John Sargeants go.

    If I had to bet, it'd be on Mark Foster, if only for the name
