Talking Strictly Come Dancing (SCD) 2008

It's that time of year again!

And here's the usual blurb about how to get tickets!

Tickets for this years' show are being allocated on a Random Draw Basis.

    To apply:

visit the website BBC - Free Tickets for shows (to apply by email) or telephone 0370 9011227

Only between 9.00am Thursday 28th August to 5.00pm on Sunday 7th September.

Only 2 tickets can be applied for at the same time.
    More info here.

The BBC press release, containing details of who's competing this year will be published next Thursday too. In the meantime, it's rumoured that Teddy Sheringham, Gary Rhodes, Andrew Castle, Rachel Stevens, Heather Small, Emma Barton, Cherie Lunghi and Lisa Snowdon are amongst this year's celebrities. (Please bear in mind these are only rumours! )

It's also rumoured that the first show will be broadcast on September 20th & we'll be getting the Sunday results show format like last year. Also, the series is probably going to be 2 weeks longer - so we may have some different dances this year.

Re: Strictly Come Dancing (SCD) 2008

According to The Sun, this year's celebrities are:

Stunning singer Rachel Stevens, 30, and model-turned-presenter Lisa Snowdon, 36, will be joined by One Show host Christine Bleakley, 27.

Hunk Mark Foster, one of Britain’s most successful swimmers, has signed up.

Holby City actor Tim Chambers, 31, who plays Sam Strachan in the BBC show, is also on the ballroom talent show.

Former Beeb political correspondent John Sergeant, 64, will put on his dancing shoes along with Rising Damp star Don Warrington, 55.

GMTV host Andrew Castle, 44, is leaving the sofa for Strictly — after his co-presenter Kate Garraway appeared on the show last year.

Ex-EastEnders Jessie Wallace, Gillian Taylforth and Phil Daniels are already rehearsing for the show, which starts on September 13.

Model Jodie Kidd, chef Gary Rhodes, rugby union ace Austin Healey, actress Cherie Lunghi and M People singer Heather Small complete the line-up.

Bruce Forsyth, 80, will host the show with Tess Daly in what he plans will be his final series.
There's also a new trailer for the Series 6 here:

What do you think of the line up Lou?

I didn't know Marc Forster was a swimmer too, he's bound to win.

Shame there are not any Olympic gold medallists in there.

Wasn't Richard from Richard and Judy going to be in it?

The line up does seem a bit parochial......South East, London based. I guess that is partly due to the commitments.

    Gillian Taylforth?

Let's hope none of the guys gets pancreitis........

I'm not sure. There's no one who jumps out at me particularly. I'm presuming Rachel Stevens will have a bit of dance background, so I'm anticipating she'll be a judges' pet, rather like Emma Bunton was. I'm just sorry the Teddy Sheringham rumour was wrong. He would've been amusing.

Re: Strictly Come Dancing (SCD) 2008

I think Austin Healey played in roughly the same position as Matt Dawson. A weak link perhaps but maybe they might do similarly, ie their position needs a similar amount of quick changes of balance.* From this perspective i did wonder if Jason Robinson would win if he took part in this series.

I would have thought that Mark Foster will get enough women voting to have another look at him () for him to get through at least a few rounds. Being a sportsman can help but i am not quite sure how being a 50 metre swimmer will give him a head start on the others. Its an event where power is more important than balance. Suppose you have to time your strokes though.

Andrew Castle used to be a tennis player i think. No idea if he has kept this up.

    * I could be talking a load of bullocks here but hopefully it makes some sense.

Apparently (according to the Digitalspy forum), Nicole Cutler won't be in the show this year .

Indeed. And there's a bitter interview in the News of the World.

    Ouch!
More tempered and sensible "News" - the article seems to be about two things , that they are "paid almost the MINIMUM WAGE by the BBC" which would be illegal as you need to get AT LEAST the minimum wage

and they "had to STRIP in front of each other" ...um...this is not uncommon for groups of dancers/actors or other groups of people about to go on stage - its not a revelation or even slightly shocking.

Re: Strictly Come Dancing (SCD) 2008

£17000 earned at a rate of £6 per hour? So total number of hours worked must be about 2833? (have lost my calculator) Divide that by 25 weeks and you have about 113 hours a week or 16 hours a day before going home and back etc. Am i the only one who finds this a little hard to believe? I think some commutes and total length of day, longest weeks are involved here.

She does actually say they were working 16 hours a day 7 days a week. Maybe that is including all the travelling. 16 hours a day every single day might be an exaggeration but I would guess they do work pretty long hours.

Thought it was amusing at the end of the article she said 'I'd love to come back and do the show again' - after moaning about the conditions, the presenters, the judges, the other dancers...
