Anything Indian (homemade), thats what i'd take
I'm off to Transylvania this weekend (Have I said that already? ) and on the opening night of the conference there is a banquet. We have all been asked to bring along some food that represents where we come from. After discovering that friends had already bagged the easy stuff like whisky and shortbread, I decided on Scottish sweets - tablet, oddfellows, macaroon bars, Edinburgh rock and aromatics.
But what would everyone else take?
Anything Indian (homemade), thats what i'd take
How about Arbroath Smokies
A dried out Yorkshire pudding with a bit of gravy on the side, a Fat Rascal from Betty's, a Barnsley chop, and a Pontefract cake.
(And that's for starters).
For me it's all sorts of fishy stuff, being Norwegian: Smoked salmon , pickled herring (and other sorts of herring, like herring in mustard, in dill, in tomato etc), rollmops, gravadlax etc. Then there's yummy things like moose and reindeer, either as roast or smoked or cured meats.
Norwegian chocolate.....
And our (in)famous brown (caramelised) goat's cheese!
Various flat breads (soft and crispy).
Aquavit.
Norwegians are also big on home baked cakes. You'd never guess...
Welsh rarebit, ie cheese on toast. Simple but gorgeous, bit like me really. DTS XXX XXX
Chocolate!
Kiwifruit, lamb and a hangi.
Hastings has the largest land based fishing fleet in Europe. The old town has tonnes of fresh fish mongers so I guess it would have to be fish (though I dont eat fish myself)
Fish and chips from clacton pier!
or toad in the hole traditionally country food!
I would take a massive cauldron of cawl.

A salt beef sandwich on rye with mustard, a latka and a big juicy new green pickled cucumber
A veritable plethora of tasty goodies:
Barm cakes
Eccles cakes
Parkin
Crumbly cheese
Blood (black) pudding
Hot pot (oh yay)
Meat and potato pie
Tripe and onions
and so much more ;-)
hmmm aren't kiwi fruit asian?
if you're a kiwi... wouldn't you take some chocolate fish? mmmmm or maybe some pineapple lumps? yummy
I'd take the vegemite sammich... (sad now that it's owned by Americans ) and some lamingtons and TimTams for good measure (another American owned company now too )
