What food represents where you come from?

I'm off to Transylvania this weekend (Have I said that already? ) and on the opening night of the conference there is a banquet. We have all been asked to bring along some food that represents where we come from. After discovering that friends had already bagged the easy stuff like whisky and shortbread, I decided on Scottish sweets - tablet, oddfellows, macaroon bars, Edinburgh rock and aromatics.

But what would everyone else take?

A dried out Yorkshire pudding with a bit of gravy on the side, a Fat Rascal from Betty's, a Barnsley chop, and a Pontefract cake.

    (And that's for starters).

For me it's all sorts of fishy stuff, being Norwegian: Smoked salmon , pickled herring (and other sorts of herring, like herring in mustard, in dill, in tomato etc), rollmops, gravadlax etc. Then there's yummy things like moose and reindeer, either as roast or smoked or cured meats.

    Norwegian chocolate.....

And our (in)famous brown (caramelised) goat's cheese!

Various flat breads (soft and crispy).

    Aquavit.

Norwegians are also big on home baked cakes. You'd never guess...

Hastings has the largest land based fishing fleet in Europe. The old town has tonnes of fresh fish mongers so I guess it would have to be fish (though I dont eat fish myself)
