    Growing old gracefully (and sexily)

This article by Joan Collins (now 75 I think) is very interesting.

Why Helen Mirren is still sexy in her sixties and a role model for growing old gracefully | Mail Online

    She makes this point:

"The truth is that women, on the whole, age better and look sexier than the opposite sex - and men often find this hard to accept. I'm sure that the gals from Sex And The City will still look sexy at 60 and over.
This idea that women of a certain age should not, or can not, be sexy is quite ridiculous.

It's also a very British state of mind. In France, they revere and respect older women; as they do in most Latin countries, where they consider older women to be delightful and with tons of sexual allure. "

    Is 60 the new 45?

Do women look sexier than men on the whole when older as Joan suggests?

    PS
It includes some great photos of Helen Mirren (63) thru her life. (This is a recent one).

She certainly does look fantastic for 63. I liked her "head cases" character.
But I'm perfectly happy with the twenty-something DT .

Take note dear, I expect you to look like that at 63.

Christ, I don't look that good at 36, what chance have I got at 63?

Mind you, she hasn't got any kids has she? Hence not a single stretch mark on her.

    Bltch...!

beauty comes from within as far as i'm concerned, I was recently deleting photo's on my PC its surprising the difference a smile makes, some people don't smile much and IMO is ageing...or is that just miserable.

    same thing

I might be 46 but i'm not getting old

Oh dear, just wait till Beo sees that photo of Helen Mirren... he'll come over all peculiar as he used to have a crush on her... Thank heavens he likes older women though

Personally, I intend to grow old quite disgracefully thank you very much!

Talking of growing old gracefully I came home last night and my mum was watching 10 years younger, the outcome was amazing, did anyone else see it?

Its funny though, in a lot of latin counties, the women seem to go to pot after the age of 40.

This is my mum on holiday at Xmas (yes, in a bikini) and a couple of months ago, (in my untidy bathroom) when she was playing 'dress up' in 'my' clothes. I just wished I looked as good in them as she does.

    I know she's my mum but she's nearly 73 and I think she's wonderful

Re: Growing old gracefully (and sexily)

Lory your mum looks absolutely amazing and gives us girls great inspiration. Helen Mirren has always been a bit of a sex kitten and she is a beautiful woman. She has had the life that has demanded that her looks are her fame and the money to put things right. To see a woman like Lory's mum who has had the kind of life that we have all experienced in the ordinary world is really encouraging and uplifting. She has great style and elegance. It has really cheered me no end. Thanks Lory

Health does play a big part in things and we do need to look after that, not always in our control unfortunately. We must also make the most and celebrate what we have got, I love Gok's perspective I want him to be my friend.

A few of my philosophies include keep fit , surround yourself with all age groups, get to know about whats happening in the world, discuss things, learn to laugh and keep laughing and smiling, Have a variety of things that interest you, don't keep your eggs in one basket. Never put something off because you think you are too old for it, 'Go Ape' at any age. You must flirt, and I don't mean that to be ' take it all the way', my beautiful mum even at 80yrs ,was great at flirting, and it kept a wee glint in her eye and a flutter in her heart.

I am hoping that i will be lucky enough to have inherited genes from my Dad's side of the family, they all look young for their age. I was out with my Nan the other day and at least two shop assistants referred to her as my Mum as she looks so young.

    Your mum looks absolutely stunning!!!
She is an amazing example of how to grow "old" gracefully. All of these so-called celebs young and old resort to invasive procedures and starvation to look not even half as good!

Eat your heart out Raquel, Helen,Joan etc and be inspired all you young ones who worry about aging at the age of 20+!!
