I watched some of the earlier series. It was interesting to see how a group of people interacted in such an artificial setting and there were some 'characters'. I've worked on various short term teams where I've stayed away from home for a week or so in dormitory type conditions, all cooking together, working together etc, and it was it interesting to observe what patterns of behaviour were similar and different to those experiences.
But of course they have to keep changing it to make it 'interesting' and get more and more bizzare people in. And the people are much more camera aware and contrived.
It was always artificial, but is now extremely so. (Not that I have seen any of this series but just from the way it was going in past series.) I guess people watch it because its still about real people, no matter how 'planned' it is, people's real feelings and reactions come through. And people are fascinated by other people, if only to be able to think 'well I'm not as mad/extreme/argumentative/silly as they are'.
