As well as CEROC weekenders, Pontins stage weekenders for Rock n Roll, 60's, Country Music, almost every genre. It's got to be a cash cow for someone so I can't see them stopping them
Remember some discussion on the Forum that the sale of Pontins has led to a delay in agreeing 2009 dates. This obviously is a great concern to the dancing public (AND the Promoters) as not only affects Southport but (I'm assuming) also several of the Ceroc Weekenders. Does anyone know/want to share what the current position is?

Reading the new owners plans bottom of blurb (aquired in April) would suggest weekenders are reasonably secure ? Although you may want to add Chess to your CV just in case
Parr is taking another punt on Pontin's - Telegraph
The newspaper article was of interest to me in that:
"I'm going to change the capital structure of how we sell holidays," he says. "If you take Prestatyn, you've got 800 apartments there. I'm going to offer them for sale to the public just as caravan parks sell caravans. We will let it over the year and the owner will get a return of 8 to 10 per cent."
This is a common practice... and releases capital back to the original purchaser.
The apartments get sold to investors, then a management team take the bookings, get a cut and the investor gets "rent".
Many hotels and resorts are run like this...
You might think a hotel is owned by the "hotel company", where in reality, it is owned by private investors and "run" by the hotel company.
I am involved in this type of investing and work with resort "managers" in this structure... If there are other formites who get involved in this... please PM me and we can chat.

Interesting
So do we 'grab' a chalet at Southport ?
My 'apartment' at Southport with the pissed stained carpet is 'worth' £1
I guess in terms of return 'rental' it would be worth more. Im sure it was last painted in 1947 and cleaned in 1983
If you have a fairly fixed market does that matter ?
Of course some forumites already have jumped the gun and already own their chalets and I guess are in a safer position ie they rent it to themselves
Maybe, yes.
Not if the fixed market does well.
Well normally, dependant upon zoning, you can live in it yourself for up to a total of 3 months of the year (max at one time, 1 month) - anytime you like. You simply take it out of the rental pool for those times... You can also rent out privately to friends at anytime - although you would have to check the "management agreement".
It could be that they "block lease" it for 12 months at a time, so you cannot use it anytime you want.
So yes, worth checking, it could be a way to ensure accomadation.
I am not sure that there will be too many people wishing to rent an apartment in the middle of an english winter.
No thats a 'English winter'

Going back on the thread, I assume all contractual relationships are only valid for the calander year , otherwise weekenders would book 2/3 yrs ahead ??
Not sure it’s fair to single Southport out or John and Wes
Pontins was sold last year and this includes Camber and Prestatyn and Brean Sands
There is very little I can see via google re the current situation across all sites
I know you cant at present book next year at Southport for anything but surely announcement will be made shortly.
This will effect loads of weekenders (not just dance)
I posted it on another thread but there are now date for camber in 2009, although booking is not open, on the Ceroc Escape!
I take it that no-one (in an official capacity) has actually said anything and that this is just the usual scaremongering?
I think we should relax and be optimistic whatever happens. It's amazing that it has only been four years since the first Southport and seeing it grow so rapidly from 1000 - 1500/2000 dancers. With that level of attendance and enthusiasm established now, I believe there would be plenty of back-up options like doing a Jive / Swing event similar to Scarborough or staging a UK equivalent of a big US event like Boogie or Capital in a self-contained arena like a hotel.
I am sure that there are plenty of other people like John and Wes who feel passionate - like Lee and Rachel doing Swingmasters. Full marks to anyone who organises some sort of weekend event. Angelique put one together at the Royal Oak with Jordan and Tatiana, so I am sure there are other people ready to take up the baton and offer others to people. Val and Dave doing Blues weekenders.
A case of paraphrasing FIELD OF DREAMS - "If you build on it, they will come"
