Lending a helping hand was for old ladies crossing the road not for situations with some poor bugger is getting the living snot kicked out of him.
I suppose you could offer to hold the perp's coat to save him getting sweaty through the effort of all the kicking Stew - That'd be lending a helping hand mate.

On the other hand piling in to an iffy situation may just inflame it, add to the carnage etc.

It has never been suggested by any authority that witnesses of crime should have a go! The adverse outcomes of such action are obvious really.

The course of action for witnesses should be calling the Police and Ambulance.

Any one who has attended a first aid or life saving course will now the rules

1 Look after yourself. You can’t help if you are dead or injured

2 Stop the situation getting worst - this very much depends on you
    ability and the situation

3 Get help –you cant get help if you are dead

If you see an accident you are involved and walking away is not acceptable

If you read the article*, Boris actually said that:

he would tell his own children to 'look after themselves first' rather than help a victim in distress.
That's totally fair enough. He's protecting his kids! There's a lot of teenage knife crime in this fair city, so he's being a responsible parent, IMHO.

But why should the facts get in the way of a sensationalist Daily Mail headline?
