Knowledge
Intelligence
Both are equal
Steven666
Which is more important?
For me, genius, consists of 99% intelligence and 1% knowledge.
Afterall what's the point of knowing stuff if you're only going to utilise it in a way that's just a copy of something done before. Is this the thought process that has meant that I've never read a single book (bar Fighting Fantasy books). Am I now just rambling...
It would probably be sensible to define intelligence and knowledge - I'm not convinced the two constructs are particularly independent. Thus to have one, one necessarily has a reasonable degree of the other.
In my experience - and in this particular area, I have a fair bit of experience - intelligence is fairly hard to define in any sensible way that's independent of some context. Intelligence then collapses into a specific form of knowledge.
Can anyone define the two terms?
Are they independant?
Given you asked the question, it suggests you have a definition. That you're not prepared to provide anything resembling a definition suggests it's either implied. Implied definitions are typically both fluid and self-serving. It is curious that you consider intelligence more valuable than knowledge (and imply independence of the two ideas) at the same time as proudly stating you've never read a book...
Where does "common sense" come into the equation? I hold common sense in higher esteem than intelligence and knowledge (in most cases )
Good sense is never common.
Yet assuming I never read would be so wrong. That sentence, although true, strays from the truth in reality.
Restates the question : IMO Regurgitation Vs Nous.
Yet you know me. So is knowledge therefore better then in your view?
Quite right!
Does anyone here actually know me well enough?
Lol.
It depends. It's all relative.
This might be the case and if you need someone to cure cancer or alzheimer's then intelligence is very important.
Here lies the problem. IMO some intelligent people are great for solving problems but they usually have little social skills or etiquette, so being intelligent isn't important if...oh I dunno...you wanna get laid, for example.
I would say common sense, knowledge and a personality are just as important as intelligence to ensure emptying your nuts occasionally.
See...it's all relative.
EDIT: By the way...never read a book? You can borrow a few of my kids school books to get you started if you like.

Intelligence is vastly more useful when backed up by knowledge. All the "geniuses" I've met have also been immensely knowledgeable (by common-or-garden standards, at any rate).
Nearly all advances are "just copies" of something that's been done before. Not exact copies of course. But you take something that's known in one area and realise you can improve it to solve a more difficult problem, or adapt it to solve a problem in a different area.Afterall what's the point of knowing stuff if you're only going to utilise it in a way that's just a copy of something done before.

There was a program on that last night. Given the right tricks, apparantly, any nerd can bed anyone they want.
I've read a lot over nearly 27 years. Though none through books. I just don't see the interest in them. Pop up books are fun though. Have you got some of those?EDIT: By the way...never read a book? You can borrow a few of my kids school books to get you started if you like.

S666, I know you have just neg-repped me again and I know that you now have to wait at least two days before doing it again giving me plenty of time to bait you some more. Is this intelligent behaviour?
It's amazing how how incredibly similar to the early Woodface you are proving to be - didn't he start a thread on knowledge vs intelligence at one point too?
edit: actually, I started this thread but it was based on something in WF's sig
double edit: the link I posted is actually about imagination and knowledge not intelligence and knowledge - clearly I was lacking a bit of intelligence on the last edit

Having one without the other is not going to do you much good IMO. It’d just be frustrating.
Again, having one without the other is not going to get you a cure for anything. You’d have to have the knowledge about the disease and the human body, then the intelligence to apply that knowledge to find a cure.
(Judiciously edited first!)
And having worked for several years at universities, I can vouch for the lack of common sense inherent in many academics… I don’t think they’d survive in the real world
