    Exchanging money help please

We're off to Turkey for a week tomorrow but don't know which currency is best to change our money into?

    Its our first time there..

I've read that that they accept Euro's, Dollars. Turkish Lira and some places they even accept Stirling.

So, has anyone got any advise on which will be best, please?

We went last year and changed our money to Euro. We didn't need to though as pretty much everything is done in pounds and they prefer taking pounds. Didn't see a turkish lira at all. Not even in change. My advice would be to change just a small amount up into Euro and then just take pounds.

Have a fantastic time. If you like the sun and you like to shop you will LOVE Turkey.

I quite like my Nationwide current account, but I wouldn't go as far as revering it

Lory - it will depend on where you are going - when I went everything was pretty much in lira - except in the places that really catered for british tourist and then prices were in pounds - and expensive compared to what we paid in Lira in other places.

didn't see anything priced in euros

I haven't been to turkey but generally speaking things will be cheaper in the local currency.

At the current exchange rates, I wouldn't exchange pounds for euros unless I really, really had to...

If you are paying by credit card in a shop/restaurant etc., they may ask you if you want to pay in sterling.

My bank advises to pay in the local currency as it's much cheaper than paying in sterling because there is a bank charge on the exchange rate.

I don't really understand it - but it applies to every country.

I think it depends on the area of turkey you go to we went to a place called Side (pronounced seaday) down in the south west and its was predominantly german tourists so the locals liked the euro even though we were told to take U.S. dollars

As for the nationwide debit card we used it in florida this year and it worked out really well we were getting at least 1.96 to 1.98 dollars to the pound when the tourist exchange rate was at 1.85 to 1.93 And the nationwide dont charge you anything to use your card abroad unlike all other card opperators (see the moneysaving experts site info here )
be wary though as some foreign banks do charge for accepting it though
have a great holiday Lori we loved the area of turkey we were in
