    Ashtons Auction

Not a dance event but just incase anyone wanted to bid for any of the fixtures and fittings from Ashtons / Galtymore viewing is tomorrow. Bidding will be around midday. Have a look at the Galtymore website. All very sad to see even those beautiful lights up for auction. I shall be very sad working there over the weekend and seeing people walking out the door with everything.

Just buy this little lot, charge yourself lot's of money for a glass of tap water and you can recreate your very own Ashtons at home!

Seriously though, there looks like there's quite lot of lighting and speaker stuff, for any budding DJ on a budget.

I'll bid £10 for the balcony. Then after the forensics had inspected it, I could make a killing on reselling the evidence.

Hey, weird or what, I thought of Marc when I saw the lights and I thought of Fletch, when I saw the clothes rail!

Well viewing started today and bidding starts tomorrow at midday. I worked there all day and saw many things from the old Ashtons even the old Ashtons neon sign. Some people were able to buy things today. It was lovely listening to people that had met there in the 50s and 60s and who are still together today.

I know how they feel. Sue and I met in 1977 at a pub called the Roxborough, in Harrow. If they were knocking it down I'd try to get a souvenir. Unfortunately, before I knew she was "the one", it was demolished to make way for a flyover.

I must admit I'm a sucker for all this night club memorabilia and would have come to look and possibly buy if I hadn't been busy this weekend. I could have added to my mirror ball collection. The stars of this collection are two balls with a 36" diameter formerly from the Lyceum. Until recently my fave was a mirror ball from the Grosvenor Hotel ballroom: it was made from glass squares glued on to an old papier-mache globe - that one was lost in a fire at our biggest venue

Given the outfits you wear, I always figured you have a pair of big balls...

Admit it - you'd have been hugely disappointed if someone hadn't made a joke about it...

Incidentally, do you like cats? I saw this picture of one and immediately thought of you!

The idea with the giant mirror balls is to produce a flyer for a ball with Sue standing between them with a hand under each. The caption would read "Once and for all Sue settles the argument about who holds the biggest balls in Sussex". Until recently our balls haven't been the biggest - but, I think it's time to get my balls polished up - all I need to do now is get Sue to co-operate*

    * I was going to say "play ball"

Well the auction sold things for silly prices. One of those beautiful big lights went for £300. 10 red and crome tables that were positioned around the dance floor went for £15 for the 10.

    All very sad to see.

Well i was the last employed barmaid there and served the last bought pint.

Bye bye Galtymore! bye bye Ashtons

Its going to Ireland along with the other big lights.

Just back from Galty and sadly watched one of those beautiful lights being dismantled.

That's quite shocking really, they might have done better on ebay.

At least Delboy got his down in one go! The woman and her husband only took the crystals and dropped all the hanging bits all over the place. They just threw the glass section into large bags not even wrapping them up. They cost over £25,000 22 years ago.
