I avoided it thinking it would be played alot but didn't hear it.

There were a few songs I was expecting to hear alot of i.e. Heartbreaker, American Boy etc but didn't.

Something I was worried about was getting complaints about the amount of swearing in the sets I played but no one batted an eyelid, even at Shake That !!!

I have a clean version of this also but unfortunately there are not many words left in the track by the time it is edited.

I have never had any body complain when I play it, but you never know.

I think it is pret pointless playing censored tracks.

I don't go up to the DJ and moan everytime someone plays a song with the words 'Cha Cha' or 'Mambo' in.

No one complained though. Dont think people even noticed.

Re: Southport June '08 the aftermath.

    My review

    The Good
Arriving earlier than usual due to different flights thinking that we couldn't check in to discover that Club check in had just opened.
Bringing a newbie along - took her over to the venue for a look around at 5pm and by 5:30 she'd bought a pair of Heavenlies and danced with DTS.
    The weather on Sat
Dancing outside - day and evening - lovely
The forum BBQ - so glad I decided to skip dinner and come over for this - the cake, candles and cava was a lovely surprise
    The cake and truffles
Meeting new forumites - Astro, Lost Leader, Agento Secreto, Lee B, Steven666 - and chatting to others at various times during the weekend
    Lots of birthday hugs
Tag dance with KT and Passion Harem
Seeing that pirate still dancing - and clearly still having so much fun - don't know what he was on but his enthusiam was infectious!
JonD reminding me I love AT (with a fab fun dance to Stairway to Heaven) - and having several fab AT dances in the milongas.
    My new dance trousers.
The blues room just being a nice place to be, day or night

    The not so good
Missing out on lots of dances - I wasn't really asking and I should have as there were people I wanted to dance with, or have more dances with.
Popping back to the chalet for something to eat on Sat night and falling asleep
Lack of seats in the Marquee - not a problem for the milonga as I danced almost every track, but I felt uncomfortable standing there for the WCS on Sat night so I didn't stay too long.
The blues room being too WCS at times - I like WCS and I dance it (or try to!) but I think when there is a WCS room on elsewhere, the blues room should maybe revert to blues.

A fab weekend, a lovely mix of dancing, chilling and chatting. Roll on September.

I agree I have never played the clean version but you are more likely in my opinion to get a complaint at a normal venue night, but think it is such a good track.

Lol, I play it at mine sometimes but no, not at a normal venue.

The first time I went to play it, I saw Lee Easton to see if he had his Line dancers together. Thought it would be a distraction from the words !!!! (Next time anyone sees the Line dancers dancing to it film it and stick it on youtube pleeeeease. it's amazin')

Heard someone complain to the DJ once about the words "will you go to bed with me" in "Straight to No. 1"

Actually reminds me of another Highlight:-

Had someone come up to me after "way I are" and intriduce himself as the UK's largest fan of a website that promotes English to the Americans. Counldn't really hear what he was talking about but had something to do with teachers, whips and an old blues song !!!!!!

Someone mentioned to me over the weekend that there is a risk of Pontns selling Southport so I did a quick search and, if anything, it seems to be the opposite!!

BBC NEWS | Business | Boss buys Pontin's holiday camps

    Sounds like it's another rumour.

    New 'modern' chalet anyone?

    See you all in September!
It was his 1st SP and was excited all weekend, i'll slap the back of his legs, the way you have to with naughty young boys.

Don't worry though Lorry, your not his type

There did seem to be quite a few of us having it tough its sad when friends treat you like a stranger, its also disserpointing when people who claim to care are so selfish they don't appear to give a damn how much pain they put you though cos there only worried about there own pain.

    see you September

I hate double trouble, I think I only had two this weekend, its become a bit of a tradition, like having the 1st and last dance. I do love tag though

Re: Southport June '08 the aftermath.

    Forgot to add..

Yes, there were other rooms than the blues room - but I had a total of about 4 dances in each (except for the milonga).

Didn't really do any classes - aside from first part of James' funky line dance (which was great fun) - mainly cos there was music and people and I just wanted to freestyle both afternoons.

And strangely, some dances, with partners I've loved dancing with in the past, just weren't working this time. I have no idea why. Having said that, I didn't have a really bad dance all weekend and I had lots of really lovely ones.

Re: Southport June '08 the aftermath.

This was by far my best Southport (although only my 4th) and most definitely the best weekender that I have ever attended. It was also the first weekender that I have been on where I felt like I had fully gone over to the dark side of West Coast Swing as I didn’t have a single MJ dance (which I am a little disappointed about but know that it is really my own fault). Hence there is a WCS bias to this review:

    THE BEST BITS

The Social - I think that this is the first time that I have spent more time socialising and chatting in the evenings rather than dancing. This gave me the opportunity to catch up with many of my friends from all over the country, some of which I rarely see. It also had the added bonus that I saved more of my energy and was therefore able to stay up later and get some amazing dances in on a more spacious floor.
Watching Arjay do doubles WCS with Melissa and Susan - I love watching improve and this was just amazing and happened completely on the spur of the moment and right in front of me too! The level of skill and musicality was astounding; Arjay must have two brains to be able to co-ordinate like that.
Dancing with Melissa - I finally found the courage to ask a US pro to dance (all be it after much badgering from certain people) and it was amazing (for me!) I only managed to mess up a couple of times but over all most things seemed to work and it was a great track for musicality (I now wish I could remember what it was)

    THE GOOD

The social dancing - I was really in the zone this weekend and I had so many great dances with a large cross section of different follows. Extra credit to all those who put up with me more than once and in a couple of cases more than 10 times!
Watching Simon and Nicole dancing on Sunday night - you guys move so beautifully and really are an inspiration to watch.
The WCS lessons - I really enjoyed Arjay and Melissa’s style of teaching and the concepts that they were trying to get across. I know that the level of talking did not suit everyone but the quality of the information was great.
Paul Warden - He was such an ambassador for UK WCS as he danced with everyone and anyone and even got up early (well early in the afternoon!) to give private lessons.

    THE BAD

The Marquee - This was a real disappointment for me as I had great expectations for the WCS slots (no pun intended). The main problem was that there was no atmosphere what so ever, (but I will agree with a previous post and say that the lighting was good) the lack of seating was probably the biggest reason for this. It was also very dusty which several people complained about this and the floor was also very fast and uneven in places. I realise that there had to be a replacement for the Dance Den and I doubt that there were any other options but simple things such as seating and covering the grass at the entrance would have made a difference.
The smell of smoke in my apartment - Minor and completely out of the control of the organisers but it was disappointing to arrive at my room and find that it reeked of cigarettes. At least the weather was warm so it wasn’t a problem keeping the windows open all weekend.
This morning - Having to get up this morning to go to work earlier than I went to bed on Monday morning!

    GENERAL

As I said at the start it was a great weekend and I am now missing being there and wish that it could have gone on for longer . John and Wes did a great job as always . I did feel that there seemed to be more people staying up late and that meant that it didn’t really quieten down until 5ish I wonder if soon we will all be going to bed early evening so that we can get up extra early and dance though the day but then I guess some people already do that!

Thanks once again to everyone who made the event so great.

Not as many lyrics cut out of it as I thought (god I need to get better soon to stop wasting time doing things like this).

    Shake that Lyrics
