I suggested this last night to a very confused guy, who got me for the freestyle at the end of the intermediate class (i wasn't taxi-ing) and he just kept freezing on the dance floor. He said he had real difficulty putting any moves together once freestyle started. So i suggested choosing six moves he knew, practice them in a "routine" and once he had the confidence add another move if he felt he needed to.

But i did think maybe he shouldn't be doing the intermediate class.

Best thing a taxi ever did for me was suggest that I become one.

I was terrified of the very idea before, and thought I would never be able to rise to those exalted ranks. Now I've been taxiing for 9 months and love it - even though I don't really have time to be doing it I can't give up because it is so rewarding to see people improving in front of your eyes.

I have also learnt a lot from it, both by thinking about what I and others do when we dance to put it into words which might help others, and more basic skills like being more confident speaking in public and more assertive and outgoing.

    Thank you Marie!

Re: Best thing a Taxi ever did for you?

I had been dancing about 6 weeks (in small local MJ classes) when I went to a ceroc venue in London (St Marys). I had a go at the intermediate class and I'm not sure if I ever knew who the taxis were but one guy who had been rotating in the beginners and given me some feedback later asked me for a dance. As I was leaving we passed him outside the venue and as I went past he said something nice about my dancing. I think he was a taxi dancer at that venue - and his comment was so encouraging!
