Re: Ceroc Scotland Competition 2008 - Charity Champs

I was just wondering if anyone of the lovely people organising or judging the champs could shed some light on the Back to Basix category.

Me and the missus are going to have a go at it, and considering that everyone, yep everyone, got disqualified last year after the first round, might be best to have a bit of clarification…

    1. First move (and pushspin), I assume that the return has to be put in on the first move as usual, what about the pushspin variation?
    2. Manspin, usual question, are double spins (or more) allowed?
    3. Comb and Slo comb. Is the return necessary?
    4. Same for the Yoyo, is the return necessary?
    5. Catapult, again, are multiple spins allowed on the spinout?
    6. Octopus….erm…no questions on that at least that one was clear.

    Ta mucho,

yes. indeed. Are you allowed syncopations and "non-moves" e.g. funny footwork and the like?

I havent gotten the new rules for this year but last year there was only the following moves.

First Move, Armjive, Armjive Swizzle, Catapult, Basket, Octopus, Step Across, Manspin, Shoulderdrop, Comb, Yoyo, Cerocspin and Side to Side.

I cant remember if pushspins and multispins were allowed. I will pass on your questions tho!

Re: Ceroc Scotland Competition 2008 - Charity Champs

Got our tickets the other day
What the info didn't shed any light on was the format for the day. Will the whole of the competition be completed before the evening party starts? I'm really just wondering if there will be a definite break between the afternoon and evening so we can go home/get food etc, or will we need to be prepared to stay the whole time? I just want to know so I can be organised (know the best place to store cakes etc ) and prepare the kitties for a day by themselves - very important

    Thanks

The timetable is not yet finalised as I am still receiving entries for the Competition. With the exception of the Invitational Jack and Jill, all finals will be completed before the party in the evening.

There will be a café at the venue for you to get something to eat throughout the day, and also after the prize giving ceremony.

People usually stay the whole time at the Comp, popping out now and then to get some food/fresh air.

    Hi Brian,

The back to basix category is brand new and potentially interesting, so I'm glad you and Louise are entering it. The idea was to have fewer moves to concentrate on but more flexibility to make it easier to dance, judge and avoid the disqualifications.

Essentially you can do any of the six moves and repeat part of the moves or extend (i.e. double spins). The main judging criteria is that at any time in the dance if we took a freeze frame still image, you would be in a basic position of the Beginner move, so for example repeating the first move twist out and in several times would be ok, removing the return would be fine too, as would be double spins or pauses, but you wouldn't be able to add a 'lean' to the first move for example...

    Ta mucho,
    To answer your questions directly:

1 - No need to do a return if you don't want to and the pushsping variations are allowed.
2 - Double spins are fine in the Manspin.
3 - Returns are not a problem for any moves, you can miss them out or add extra ones if you wish.
    4 - same as above
5 - Multiple spins are permitted throughout the dance.
    6 - Cool

We are planning to have 1 judge per couple to check for rule violations (which will mean a mark down for every occurrence but not automatic disqualification) and separate judges for overall styles, musicality and technique so that judges can focus properly on each aspect and judge the category as fairly as possible.

I hope this helps and many of you reading this will consider entering this category as I imagine it will be great fun!
    Franck.

    There's an A.P.P. for that!

It's a funny old cateogry. The name makes it sound easy. The moves make it sound easy. In reality, it's probably one of the hardest to do well! I'm really looking forward to it

Traveling returns will be allowed as an acceptable variation of the return.

    Just a quick question...

Is there a general dress code for the evening?

Do people wear Casual or DJ????

I've never been to Ingliston before, never mind the "MacRobert Pavilion".

    So... Is this it?

    Where should you park?
