    A simple challenge

    Here's an interesting test.

Have a go, and see how well your understanding of basic physics holds up.

I'd be interested to see if there was an inverse correlation between scoring well in the test and believing in - to use a neutral word recently bandied about - metaphysics.

But it should be 10 minutes of fun and stimulation for everyone.

    Break a leg!

Meh. 95%. Got one definitely wrong (to do with clouds), and one I'd dispute (to do with voltage).

I got 90% - does that rattle your hypothesis at all?

I didn't break any bones while doing the test though. Perhaps if I'd followed your instructions more carefully I would have done better...

    Re: A simple challenge

I got 87½%, but when I checked the answers I found I'd answered two questions by clicking the wrong answers - that is, not the answers I'd intended to give. So I'm claiming 92½% (One of them is the one about the falling girl and forces.) In my defence I did it about 1am this morning.

The cloud one nearly caught me out too.

92.5%, and deeply ashamed of the ones I got wrong (and the couple where I guessed right, then had to look up the explanation to see why I was right). Too much of my scientific knowledge seems to have melted away over the last 10 years

Oh - and I still believe in Reiki

    Re: A simple challenge

92.5 - and all the ones I got wrong were a result of misleading language in the questions. In fact, quite a lot of the questions are badly worded and are in effect asking the reader to guess the meaning of the question because they mix common usage and scientific usage of words.

p.s. how can it be possible to believe in the philosophy of science?

    Re: A simple challenge

Got through the first set of questions and then gave up as there were too many to do!!!

Dont think I would do very well. No use at Physics.

Agree that the wording of the questions could be better though.

The way I see it, unless I actually need the information, I am not too worried about not knowing it!

    85%

I would dispute their cloud mass answer. It only takes a minute amount of water droplets to be visible and IMO the main mass of most clouds would be represented by vapour.

Likewise. I got 80% and that was with a few guesses as to what exactly was meant by the language used, frankly.

Oh well, back to the "How Big is Your Brain?" application on Facebook...
