    There's hope for us all...

Moved from "What have you learnt in the past 24 hours?"

That there's hope for us all

This attached photo was taken at a competition in June 2006. The competition was between 9 women for best makeover.
They had every possible beauty treatment available to them over a period of 12 hours before the contest. Look at the before and after photos. It really is Shocking!

Conclusion - there are no ugly women * (see below), only poor women.... If you had the money....Good Grief!!!
BTW, the woman 2nd from the left won the contest.

    There certainly is. These are impressive results but any woman who is unhappy about the way they think they look can achieve a huge improvement in their appearance and more importantly their self confidence if they;

    1. Get a good quality hair cut. Yes it is likely to be quite pricey, but its worth every penny IMO.

    2. Buy decent underwear in the correct size.

    3. Buy clothes that suit their body shape, try to follow "the rules" (see Gok, Trinny and Susanna etc.) and don't forget the accessories.

    4. Invest in a few key make up products and learn how to apply them properly

    5. Get rid of any baggy, shapeless, ill-fiitting, "comfortable" clothes in their wardrobe (or at least stop wearing them in public)

Of course this will require some time, effort and money but you cannot really put a price on self-esteem can you.

That was a programme called the swan - they all had major cosmetic surgeryover a couple of months - they all went to hell and back - but looks like it was worth it!

    I need help.
Most of those requirements don't even occur to me never the skill required to implement them.

    Note the edit.

Good advice LL. I love Gok's outlook that everywoman is beautiful and must make the most of their good points, but its good when you get to learn what they are.

Yes they do look amazing but I am afraid I think they also look manufactured, Stepford Wives springs to mind. Is this what we think all women should aspire to look like?......not jealous really honest guv There is nothing wrong [if you can afford it] with anyone getting a nip and tuck or any other procedure that helps them feel good about themselves, but this is not the whole story about how to feel good about yourself.

So very true... why is the standard ideal of feminine beauty in our culture so standardised? It's usually slim, big boobs, blonde, straightened hair. You see so many women who looks like clones of each other, particularly in the City.

    rant mode on!

Yeah! What's that all about? we are different for a reason - that's what makes the world a rich colourful place! Anyway, I bought the straighteners, thought I'd conform...... Took them out of the box, plugged 'em in... blinking eck they get hot... couldn't get it right, hair was even more kinky when I'd finished - please someone explain what people think is right about effectively ironing your hair - for goodness sake, you've even to buy special stuff tostop you frying it and making it dry and crispy - dry and crispy is only good for CRISPS!!!

    rant mode off!

Personally, I don't find the "Barbie" look very attractive. Maybe it's because they look plastic and not like real people?

You could've saved yourself a fortune. I bet you already have an iron and ironing board!

    Glad to hear it

I suspect it's a look modelled on girls porn mags... presumably because this is what men are "supposed" to find attractive. Many men don't, thank goodness.

Personally, I'd rather look like the after shots, even if they do all look like Barbie dolls.

Is that a great example of coyote ugly or what? You'd go out, meet one of them, go home with them, and in the morning...... chew off your arm!

That last photo looks suspiciously likes it's a case of good-old-fashioned air brushing to me Lory. Her pose is identical in each half. You can tell by looking closely at where she stands relative to the grid behind her.

If that's the case then there is no reason to think the other photos haven't been doctored too.

makes a very good point about image versus beauty - I really like the fact that Dove don't use stock Barbie girls to model their stuff. I prefer women who look real!

The thing is, the girls in the "after" shots are actually no more beautiful than in the "before" shots. Where they had natural beauty before, they still have it.

I'm a big fan of grooming products, such as hair straighteners, but true beauty always wins out.

For 100% proof, look at the pattern of water dripping off her.

That's what I thought too, the water is the same, which was a bit suspicious.

Looking at the photos, it would have been good if the 4th one had the after picture in the same close-up.
Personally I think with a little make-up they would have looked lovely, but it's overkill, great for a photo shoot, I guess, but how would they all look after 4 hours dancing?

Re: There's hope for us all...

Having looked closer at the images, I'd say they're photoshopped beyond all recognition. Some of the "after" images don't actually look human, the skin looks so plastic. Personally, I think they've tried too hard - the images may look OK in snapshot, but full size they aren't too good.

For what it's worth, here's the result of a few minutes working on a "before" images:

First, just some selective blurring to leave the skin looking smooth, and a little added eye colouring.

And then some basic colour adjustment.

Note that (a) although I write image editing software for a living, I don't actually know how to use it very well, and (b) I've intentionally not done anything too drastic.

Re: There's hope for us all...

Hmm, very interesting DF. I guess the moral is don't trust anything you see in pictures.

Personally I reckon it's more important to love yourself and be confident with your own body, both the bits you like and the bits you don't. That confidence will shine through and give you an 'inner' beauty that is far deeper and stronger than anything superficial and 'skin deep'. Just my opinion...

    And to Trampy's point too!
