    Anyone for RL?

Here we go with the potentially the shortest thread in the world

Was wondering if anyone on here fancines going to watch Harlequins RL at some point?

As an exiled northerner I am desperate to get back to watching Rugby League. Trouble is I know absolutely noone in the South that is interested in it.

Rugby League, that would be that strange game where they give the ball back after five tackles.......nah, that's just odd!! Although I do support the Bronco's when I'm in Brisbane - go figure!

I promised myself I would resist the temptation to bite back at any jibes about Rugby League

    why??

Nah, League's okay.... just takes a bit of getting used to. This is of course being typed by a Scottish Rugby Union supporter so I shall take myself away and hang my head in shame.....

I think we had a 'discussion' on here a while back on why Rugby League is far more exciting than the penalty-fest, kick-ridden sport that is Rugby Union (sorry, couldn't resist)

So that's why I am not going to say a word against it here

Best quote I ever heard about this sport..."Rugby is a game played by men with odd shaped balls"

See, I just didn't want to go that far in case I offended him and he refused to dance with me when I finally get up the courage to ask......

I prefer "Rugby League is a simple game played by simple people, whilst Rugby Union is a complicated game played by w**kers"

PaulF - if I still lived in Rickmansworth, I'd definitely be interested, but it's a bit far for me to come at the moment. However a massive to Mezzosoprano for liking the Broncos - a quality team!!

    Ooooo, be careful!!!

Although I used to live in a borough of Wigan I am actually a St. Helens fan (bitter rivals) through my family ties.

I still do miss watching any Rugby League though.

I did wonder whether it would be Wigan or Saints Paul. I used to go to quite a few of the games a few years ago, and althought Wigan and St Helens were great rivals there was never any trouble like you would see at a football match. Hope you get to see a game soon

But they are going to have to work out a way to deal with the Gold Coast Titans....

Thats one of the greatest selling points of Rugby League IMO.

The lack of violence and the way it attracts families is absolutely amazing.

The recent big Cardiff weekend were all the RL teams played at the Millenium stadium was testament to that. All fans mingling before the match. In the stadium I was sat surrounded by different supporters all cheering their team on. After the match we all had drinks together.

Can you imagine that in football!

The same happens in Rugby Union... certainly where I am.

I went to the 2003 Rugby Union World Cup final match in Sydney. England vs. Australia.

I was sitting in the staduim, with Aussie's, New Zealander's (who were crying most of the time, having expected their team to be in the final) and English suporters.

No trouble at all, and in the bar after... no trouble at all, just congratulations being given out to the English suporters by the Aussies and Kiwi's.

I then partied on in the City until 5 am, again, no trouble, just congratulations and some friendly banter.

Well if anyone needed any more emphasis of the state football is in I think this gives an indication.

BBC NEWS | England | Manchester | CCTV shows fans chasing police

Personally I think the police should have stationed a few officers armed with automatic weapons in front of the mob and just opened fire. Their behaviour is an absolute disgrace. The sooner scum like that are wiped off this earth the better.
