Absolutely understand! I don't get turned down in Jive often, but I do in other dance forms. It feels awful. People who refuse dances should be punished. Publicly. Like on a forum! Oh wait, unless its me. Then everyone should reflect on how hard being a teacher is, and nod in understanding - didn't you see I was holding a drink and inclining 30 degrees to the left? An obvious 'don't feel like it now' type situation, I thought.

Even in Jive I get rejected, but in other ways. In one class I stopped and shouted 'hey everyone! lets all get naked!' and everyone laughed since they thought I was joking. I had to laugh too and pretend I was, but deep down I felt really undermined. Was it because my fake tan was applied unevenly?

It is weird being a teacher, having people feel great just because you said yes, or depressed because you said 'not right now'. It is a kind of power you didn't ask for and don't want. But with great power comes great responsibility, which is why I wear tights under my trousers.

And also why I’ll say ‘Sorry Judith, it wasn't anything personal, just bad timing.’

I don’t always say yes. I try to dance less but mean it more. I’ll often say ‘not right now.’ Sometimes I’ll try find that person later when I am ready. When I'm up for it I'll normally stand by the dance floor with my best 'come get it baby' pose' on. If I'm sitting down and avoiding eye contact then that's me doing my 'out of service' impression. When I feel obliged to do something I won’t do it, and according to mum, that’s how its always been.

Its all about freedom baby, yeah!

And so, considering how rejected I will feel if you all refuse, I’m going to try one last time. Steady now.

What you all say if we all get naked! Yeah!

    The good

    * All of Mario’s classes - great content, really well taught and the first time I've ever seen a combined Ceroc/WCS class. Ceroc with syncopations anyone? The man is a genius...
    * Great music all weekend
    * Really friendly atmosphere - it was my first time to Scotland for a dance event
    and I'll definitely go back.
    * Some great dances - thanks to all the leads that danced with me
    * LM for warm friendly hospitality and loads of CAKE
    * All the friends new and old at the little monkey cafe
    * Did I mention the cake?
    * Laughing so hard my sides hurt at MikeyR being a budgie
    * Unlike most - the temperature! I grew up somewhere hot and normally feel like I'm freezing to death at most dance events if I stop dancing for a while.

    Not so good

    * Sticky floor in the blues room until it was seriously smothered in talc
    * The annoying need for things like sleep interfering with dancing or socialising time
    * Not much else!

Huge thanks for Frank and Sheena for organising such a great event (and their great taste in bringing over two of my favourite teachers).
Sam and Mario - did you know it's you guys who talk funny? Thanks for everything and for being such inspirational teachers and dancers.

Wow... quick responses!! Thank you all for comments and understanding, and also for sharing what it feels like to be popular/famous with its accompanying pressures - it's good for us to see it from the other person's point of view too, so thanks. Sorry for any public punishment you felt, Amir,... that was not intentional... and we still think you're a great teacher. Keep your tights on!

We'll look for the eyes glazed, 30 degree angle look in future. Perhaps this could become a trademark for all teachers (like semi-circles to the left)?!

As for the offer to get naked.... that's something it's our turn to refuse!

    All the best

Re: Blaze III – the aftermath

Since Amir is obviously feeling undermined and rejected - I'll just note that when I asked him to dance he was a perfect gentleman - he turned me down saying that he was tired and needed a drink, which was fine by me, as it is one of the types of "rejection" I don't count as an actual rejection (ie being half dead and needing rehydration are, IMHO wholly legitimate reasons for not dancing). I said, "OK, I'll maybe catch you later" and went away, leaving Amir by the water cooler. Amir then sought me out and asked me for a dance soon after, which was more than I was expecting - as I had anticipated simply asking him again later in the evening on the chance of catching him when he wasn't tired.

So, Amir, consider yourself commended for niceness above and beyond what was expected.

And now having done all the being nice I'm going to do, I'll simply compound his feelings of rejection. Get naked? Nae chance!

Yep, hasn't made me feel any better thanks Minnie. : Seeing as it could be that it could be that im not a slim pretty one or is it im just not a good dancer!! (and yes i know you didn't mean it that way)... xx

It was down to timing im sure.

He can dance with who he likes as can i so, no big deal it was just the only irritation of the whole weekend, bit like an itch.

Well as I had a refusal from you at Blaze too, I think i'll reap my revenge....

(As you danced with me later though, I'll do it in the dark.)

sorry - just quoting my own insecurities - no offence meant especially as you are slim now (can't wait to see you) and you are definitely pretty and without doubt a good dancer (can't quote on your WCS though)

Might have been as Lynn said, he thought he was going to have a MJ follower etc - I know that has upset previous non-MJ pros (especially the ballroom variety)

Must be difficult for any teacher when socialising on the dance floor

Re: Blaze III – the aftermath

This is the first chance I've had to post anything since Blaze

    for me

    The Amazing:

Dancing Two-Step with Mario between classes on Sunday
(Please bring Mario back, he was the best two-step I've ever had)
Franck and Sheena for asking me to Venue Manage and DJ over the weekend.

    The Good:

The team of reception staff working with me, Lynne, Daniella, Cristina, Frances, Shabaz, Colin & Elaine. You're all stars!
Gadget should get a special mention as he worked tirelessly all weekend setting up the rooms before the classes in the morning with only a couple of hours sleep. Always on hand to sort out any technical difficulties.

    The downright pants!:

losing the pink sapphire stone out of my "pre-engagement ring" ring

    Nix

P.S. If Blaze IV is the same time next year I'll have to persuade Steven to take me to Haven for our Honeymoon

Re: Blaze III – the aftermath

Well Blaze was great amounts of fun. It was just what the doctor ordered.

Our Caravan wasn't too far away. It was nice and warm. Must admit the horror stories from some of my friends did kind of scare me a little into thinking about having an apartment.

Learnt to do a little blues, I always seem to have to learn that when am away. Not much use for it back home. Its always great to have to a slower beat.

Danced with Sam!! Though i probably killed the track. It was really unexpected and really nice. I was a bit like a rabbit caught in headlights. However it had to be in the blues room to a real slow song. Not the best place for Wuzzle to be. So i was more than out of my element still we danced and am all the better for it

Its the first weekender that I've have danced with everyone on my wish list. I am quite shy at heart when I'm out of of my own surroundings.

I should apologize though cause i wasn't my best at blaze. Infact i was a bit worn down I had alot on my mind and it kept on biting at me. So many thanks to everyone who distracted me.

Re: Blaze III – the aftermath

My apologies to anyone I turned down for a dance over the weekend. I promise that it wasn't for any reason other than being tired, as every "turn down" was after having danced several songs in a row.

I'm brand new to Ceroc/Leroc/Modern Jive, but I'm doing my best. Thanks to those of you that allowed me to drag you across the floor as I attempted to impersonate a Ceroc dancer, and I promise I'll get better. I assure you I didn't turn anyone down due to my inexperience with the dance, rather I was grateful for the chance to practice.

Please find me at the next dance event, and if you'll let me know that I turned you down I give you my word I'll dance with you right away regardless of jet lag/being awake 30 hours/having taught since 9am/having eaten once today/not having had a drink/my dog ate it/I didn't hear the alarm/I had a flat tire.

Seriously, I know what it's like to get turned down, and I feel badly. The truth of it is that after 24 years of dancing, my knees simply don't like it when I dance that many songs in a row anymore.

I hope you will accept my apology, and give me a chance to make it up to you...!

The fact that the teachers stayed out and socially danced like they did is to be applauded

I don't think anyone* can dance (& teach) a whole weekend without having to stop a few times to rest catch their breath. "Look they are sitting down - must ask them for a dance now!" Don't know how to get the odds more in your favour, but I would guess the odds for acceptance are staked against you if the dancer has just been dancing. But then again, the odds for getting in there to ask would be higher...

    {*I know - I've tried :gasp:}

See my idea for teacher's wearing badges when they need a breather, so as to avoid refusals.

Thread - "Off Duty (having a breather) badges for Teachers at Weekenders".

    Hey there,

just wanted to say that, blaze was my first proper ceroc weekender.
    I Loved It!!!!!
Wish i could dance with so many amazing people every weekend...

Got to know so many people too, many of which i kind of already knew but didn't realise lol.
However, now that i know so many people, i have no idea who you all are on this because of all the nick names!!! Everyone i met will probs vaguely remember me or, fortunately or unfortunately, not be able to forget me.
Let me know who is who.. :s
    Need to create a list!

Thanks, can't wait to see you all again.

    Est x
