    The end of Ashtons

Ashtons has finally succumbed to the developers and is closing down for good at the beginning of June.

A great shame as IMO I can't think of a better venue for dancing of that size in London.

    The balcony was good too.

    I'll miss the balcony.

I guess this will the last event there then. It's not on the main events board for some reason, so not very well advertised. (Maybe they are waiting until after May 7th when the prices go up ) I will Miss Ashtons, it's one of the few events I will bother travelling all the way to London for.
It'll be good news to Franco and Vibe though.

    Oh no..............

Where is everyone gonna go then?

Not good news......North London needs a LARGE venue like Ashtons. Ideally (as I have said before) a purpose built air-conditioned place with state-of-the-art sound system.

Now....if there are 300,000 Ceroc dancers - and each contributed c.£20 then we could do it......

Never rated the old hall but shame this one is closing as it had a good atmosphere.

    Re: The end of Ashtons

I will miss this place so much! I work there each weekend too It was the old hall next door where I first started modern jive. I was so upset when they knocked it down and now this.

If anyone misses the balcony then I am sure there will be a chance to buy it at the beginning of June.

The latest Duffy video Mercy was filmed in the Galtymore (Ashtons) you may have noticed the chandeliers (cant spell tonight).

I have so many fond memories of Ashtons and even met my lovely boyfriend there too last year

Well I hope to see alot of you at the next 2 big events there on 23rd May and 30th May to say goodbye to one of the last dance venues standing.

And Mr Byrne if you are reading this please dont knock it down!!! I am sure I can persuade more dancers to buy at least 2 bottles of water each night.

Its got some history , I hope they have a proper send of, ticket only and gender balanced of course

Use to go next door and have a jig with the Irish contingent that use to have that main hall years ago after the other hall closed at around midnight ?

Another historical monument of nightlife past disappears.

Many fine memories - and it was within walking distance of my home....

Ealing and Hammersmith - here I come....
