The ONE I choose to look up to and try to dance like was Onkar.

He is still my go to guy if I need advice. There have been many different people who have helped me over the years but Onkar is still the one for me.

I look up to myself because it was me who taught me how to dance the way i dance. I studied, watched and adapted.

I have a few for different reasons.

    In MJ...

Adam Maple. The first teacher / dancer I saw who impressed me with the way he moved and double spinned. Still impresses me to this day. He was the reason I learnt to multiple spins. I wanted to be able to out do his multiple. lol

Alex Fulkner. The way he was able to adapt his styles etc.

Jamie. The first bloke I saw able to follow. Made me want to learn to follow too. His spins and his musicality. I learnt from him not to just know out move after move but to play with the music too.

Richard Beovission. Not so much for his dancing (though he is a great dancer) more the way he runs his venues. Greating people in and out, never off the dance floor. Comes to the class to take part even if he isn't teaching himself.

Also Alot of the WCS dancers. Mainly Jordan Frisbee.

Frankie Manning, an absolute legend. my first dance classes were in Lindy and Jazz jive. Frankie Manning was teaching at my 1st weekender and at 92 at the time he was leaving people who were many decades younger gasping at his energy and style. one of the top film choreographers, i asked him for any tips for a novice. All he said was "dont worry about being flashy just enjoy what you do" I've tried to keep that in mind and it always comes good.

I'm sure everyone's seen the Hellzapoppin' clip by now, but if not, it's compulsory viewing. Frankie's the guy in the dungarees - the last of the four couples. 94 now, and still a dance god

There are two people who have most impressed me with their style, smoothness and musicality and inspired me to self improvement.

They are also fantastic teachers are Amir Giles and Victor Andeke.

Ok, you're all probably going to find this so sickly that you'll need a bucket. BUT, I don't care......

The person I look up to most, who I have respected as a dancer and a person since I first started MJ is my husband Aurion (aka Andy)

He stands out from the crowd - not that he's flashy, just a damn good dancer who really feels the music. He dances with anyone who asks and asks anyone, regardless of level.

He's just started as a taxi dancer and all I can say is, beginners, you are sooooo lucky!

ok, I need the sick bucket now!!

In addition, as teachers I have to give a call for Dave & Lilly

My other dance hero is Kate (Mrs Will Hargreaves). She has a style that just takes your breath away.

There are lots of really good dancers who I find inspiring, but for the last coupla years or so, I've gotta say that J&T have just taken swing dance to a new level. Very inspiring.

Re: Who is your dance idol?

I remember when I was living in London I ALWAYS used to watch Simon Rich and Nicole Beckey. They were just stunning to watch and Nicole is just so inspirational not to mention an incredible dancer.

for West coast swing, it's Tat and Jordan all the way for me. From the first moment that someone showed me their DVD (thanks RK!!) I was addicted. I think because Tatiana is a similar build to me, shortish, and not a stick (don't get me wrong she is no where near large either) I think she is absolutely stunning! She showed me that you don't have to be gorgeous and tall and thin to be able to dance. Not to mention their style and grace - the way even the smallest headflick is done with the absolute perfection. What I love is that their routines aren't always necessarily difficult but they are just so sharp, crisp and snappy that you cannot take your eyes off them.

I have been told that I have a little bit a 'Tatiana' style to my dancing (which I've worked INCREDIBLY hard to get!) and that is the biggest compliment I've ever had.

Re: Who is your dance idol?

I think for me my 3 biggest inspirations in jive would have to be firstly my mum for taking me dancing my first time and showing how easy it was to socialise and learn from the people who were there. And above all proved to me that no you did not have to be gay to be a dancer which i will confess in my younger single minded ways i did belive!! It took me about 5 minutes to rid myself of that preconception.

Secondly i would have to say Marc Forster after my first couple of months i just fell in love with the way he teaches, dances and dj's. I was lucky enough to benefit from having Marc as pretty much my only teacher for about my first year of dancing and i would like to think i took on a little of his sort of style and i do really like the way he always looks as if he is having the most wonderful time when he is dancing. I always struggle to look like im having fun becase im too busy thinking about what to do next :-)

And lastly but in no way leastly and im sure almost everybody in some way has been inspired by Fletch. Its extremly easy to say she is by far the nicest person i have ever met and a huge credit to the whole dancing scene. And will always give people the time off day. She is also one of my very favorite dancers as she is so much fun to dance with which is all I could ever ask for in a dance.

    M :-)

Re: Who is your dance idol?

A little predictable but I have to join the chorus for Jordan - seeing him in action so close up this last weekend (at a much smaller scale the Southport) made me realise just how slick his dancing is and how much control he has in order to give it that impression. People talk about him (and Tatiana) making it look easy but that's probably the hardest thing of all - making the complex look simple.

On the downside for him is the fact that the majority of people he dances with are likely to be so nervous and overawed that they do not dance as well nor enjoy the experience as much as they might wish to through no fault of his but simply because of his status and their perception of his ability.

Re: Who is your dance idol?

Emma Pettitt was my first Teacher and she is a first class teacher/choreographer/dancer/friend.

I don't do WCS - But Tatiana is downright amazing, and if I take up WCS she will be my influence!

Simon Selmon - (Is that spelling correct?) The 3 dances I have had from him were droolingly delicious!! He is ACE.
