I read yesterday that somebody who eats sausages everyday has a higher risk of getting cancer.
Whilst this is no news as everything these days is linked with cancer, it reminded me of some other things i used to get told and have stayed wary off.
1. if you pull a grey hair out, 10 more come to its funeral.
2. if you sit on a cold floor, you will get piles.
Anymore out there guys?
Warning...!
If you pull a silly face when the wind changes, you'll stay like that forever....!
ooh just thought of another one.
If you eat carrots you can see in the dark. my mum used to say anyway.
If you keep playing with it, it'll fall off.
(not directed at me you understand, I heard someone else saying it )
If you swallow an apple pip, a tree will grow in your stomach. Ergo, it's better to spit than swallow.

This is more like helpful advice rather than a warning...
...if you can't fight, wear a big hat.
no, I don't get it either.
It seems to be a day for misunderstanding thread titles.
I took this one to be another of Brian Doolan's chat-up lines....
What the research actually says is that a sausage a day (or 3 rashers of bacon, IIRC) increases the risk of cancer (twice? I think) but since the reports give no baseline, there's absolutely no way of telling whether that is significant.
Remember the 'contraceptive pill causes cancer' scares? One said that the risk of X cancer was increased by 50%. Looking into it, it was piffling - something like increasing the incidence in the population from 0.002 to 0.003. Yawn.
So. Breakfast for me? Bacon, black sausage, crispy egg, tomato, and fried bread. Increases my cancer risk about as much as leaving my shirt off for an hour in the sun, I shouldn't wonder. (It's hell on the waistline, but that's another can of worms...)
An apple a day keeps the doctor away
