Just a quick rant about Car Breakdown cover.
I got my Greenflag renewal notice in last week. Would I like to pay £135 for their recovery plus service?
No!
Instead I would rather go to their website, and buy on line, and pay £74 for the same package!
Found the same with my house contents and buildings insurance. Saved £270 and with the same provider! Well at least that pays for a weekender!
Why do companies seem hell bent on screwing loyal customers?
Onkar
Loyalty is dead as there is no longer much real loyalty from companies to its customers. If you find one that still values it stick to them like glue.
Otherwise Loyalty is expensive. There are many customers out there who renew automatically and get stuffed. They rely on it.
Call them and tell them your leaving. Most organisations in the service industries particularly Telecoms, Gas etc will put you on to there leaving dept. This is really their "persuade you to stay dept".
I helped set one of these up. They have targets to meet. Tough one's. Tell them what you have seen elsewhere or be really cheeky and tell them what U want. Be slightly miffed, but not rude. Be prepared to go elsewhere.
You might be surprised at what u can get.

I remember cancelling a subscription to something once and they did this. I'd already made up my mind I wanted to cancel and I really didn't want to be treated like an idiot who didn't know what I wanted by someone trying to change my mind. But I was also aware that the person was just doing their job so I said as they started 'I know its your job to try to persuade me not to cancel, but I have made up my mind, not going to change it' - he just laughed and said 'is it that obvious?' and didn't push it.
All done with humour and I still cancelled, but at least ended the conversation feeling like I'd been treated like a person. If he'd pushed it to try to get me not to cancel, I'd still have cancelled and ended up annoyed as well!
