Cool Re: The Evolution of 'your' Dance Shoes

Not long after we started dancing Twirlie Bird bought me some dance shoes. Light black leather with a Cuban heel and a suede sole. I used to wear them religiously, but it wasn't long before I realised that I could dance without them.

For the past year I have worn a pair of shiny soled ankle boots that I bought in Petroleum about *cough* years ago. The cash that I save can now be spent by Twirlie Bird on far more useful things.... like .... dance shoes for her

    1. 40's Styled Shoes (Clarks and M&S) - with suede soles added
    2. Ballroom Shoes
    3. Split-soled trainers - I have not got on with these as they have rubber soles, I prefer suede for spinning
    4. WCS dance shoes - On order

With random sizes like these, what chance do I have ordering them mail order (especially when it can take months to get them?)

Re: The Evolution of 'your' Dance Shoes

    My own shoe evolution...

Normal trainers (for about 6 months)
Supadance leather dance shoes (about 4 months – hurt my feet)
    Bloch's sneakers (destroyed)
Bloch's Stealth sneakers (had problems with the fit)
Bloch's sneakers (mostly happy with them)
Bloch's sneakers (different colour on order – hope, hope hope they will arrive before the weekend!!!)

I'm curious... What makes a pair of shoes "WCS shoes", or "Ballroom shoes"?

Actually if I listed EVERY pair of dance shoes I have it would also be that long (well almost as long) - I actually meant the style of dance shoes

BTW F/Hips bought a pair of Aris Allen Trainers at Southport - they were fab, but very expensive

Re: The Evolution of 'your' Dance Shoes

    Jazz shoes (suede soles)
    Character shoes (leather soles)
    Freed trainers
Ballroom shoes (starting low and gradually getting higher heel heights)
WCS practice shoes (lace up, suede soles)
    WCS sandals (Suede soles)
I still wear heels when in a dress and WCS shoes with trousers. On a sticky floor I get out the old leather soled character shoes (but as little as possible as they are very smelly!)

    Thanks Cruella

Character Shoes (aka my leather soled New Yorkers)
WCS practice shoes (aka my WCS/Line dancing Spanish looking ones)

I did have sooooo many dance shoes, but have given most away now (those that were still in good condition) as I only wear my swing (WCS, lindy & 40's ones) and a flat pair of split soles

OK, so the picture of the WCS shoes you're waiting for looks not so different from any other ladies' dance shoe I've ever seen. What makes it a WCS shoe, rather than a MJ shoe, or a ChaCha shoe?

Yeah, I think she bought the size 7's that were way too small for me.

I didn't think they were that expensive, though they were definitely more pricey than on the web site that promises to sell you them but never delivers...

It's a problem. I got mine by ordering from the States - and it costs a lot less than KoD (they were around $40, plus delivery charge, so around £30 in all)

But the sizing is a pain - that's the only downside - the only way you can be safe with Aris Allens is to try on lots until you find a pair that fit, then buy that pair - not just another pair that size. I'm at a loss to explain this, particularly as the shoes themselves are so good. Needless to say, I didn't know about the sizing issues when I ordered my shoes.

    hmmmmmmmm.... good point - AFAIK

The 'West Coast Swing Shoes" need to have a small heel and be light and flexible - it helps with body posture

Tango shoes need to have a high heel

    Not sure about Salsa shoes

    40's Shoes are about fashion

Lindy shoes, need to be flat or almost flat and very flexible

Re: The Evolution of 'your' Dance Shoes

I started out with Blochs, then I bought some ballroom shoes, then I bought some character shoes which I find hurt my feet after a couple of hours. Last Summer I replaced my Blochs with dark red blochs. I recently bought a new pair from Seksi that are like ballet shoes with a tiny tiny half centimetre heel. I don't know what they're called but I love them. They have a small pad of suede for the ball of your foot and they're fab for spinning. I now find it very hard to put any other shoe on for dancing. I owe Little Monkey a big bar of chocolate for recommending this shoe type!

Ballroom latin shoes are usually higher heels and have narrower heels. The show is designed to accentuate the leg line for the dances.
If you check out the two shoes ladies shoes in the link Bloch - Dancesport you can see that the style at the front is reasonably similar - yet the heel is higher and narrower. WCS doesn't get into accentuating the leg length of the dancer assist the look of the lines of the dance.
