FANCY DRESS THEME FOR SOUTHPORT May/June 08

OK so I know there's ages to go yet but I'm looking forward to it already. Just wondering if we can get the ball rolling re- suggestions for the theme night. I always seem to be thinking about a fancy dress outfit last minute and it would be good to have plenty of time to sort something out....this may possibly encourage more people to dress up too if it's not a last minute thing!

I quite fancy an Arabian nights theme - sexy belly dancers, harem girls, sheiks or maybe popstars - lots of scope there for potential Madonnas, Adam Ants, etc.

Perhaps a kind moderator could add suggestions as they crop up?

Finally! I've been waiting for someone to get this ball rolling (didn't want to seem too eager).

I've done a little research, and I reckon Southport has already done the following themes; correct me if I'm wrong:

1) May 2004 - Not sure if there was one at the inaugural event
2) Sep 2004 - Wild, Wicked & Wacky
3) Jun 2005 - Rio/Carnival
4) Sep 2005 - The Seventies
5) Jun 2006 - Chicago/Roaring 20s
6) Sep 2006 - Wild West
7) Feb 2007 - Hollywood
8) Jun 2007 - Uniforms
9) Sep 2007 - Pantomime
10) Feb 2008 - Rome

Now, as we're entering an Olympic summer, and it should be a little warmer (I wasn't going to be exposing my legs under a toga in Feburary ), I'd like to suggest a SPORTS theme. Lots of potential, and fairly easy at the same time. Just imagine a room filled with people in running shorts, tennis whites, football shirts, maybe even the odd beach volleyball bikini.

The fact that I could wear the wetsuit I passed off as a scuba diver's uniform last June is purely coincidental.

Given we had about 1 in 50 dressed up last time , dont you think people might want something 'different' for a change

I think saturday night should be 'special' but something different to watching 20 people in fancy dress.

Its for everyone and its a great idea but each time the numbers who take part go down

I think the Uniform one got the most taking part, easy to do ?

Well, pirates will be easy to do, but it's going to be hard to stand out enough to win though.

I never do the fancy dress thing, although I live in hope of a "Black T-shirt" theme.

Maybe it'd be better to call the Saturday night freestyle a "Saturday Ball" thing instead? Black Tie etc?

That way, more people would probably dress up, and it could provide more of a sense of occasion?

I think as a 1 off that would be good

you would still get men who want to wear Batman tee shirts and thats fine

Ladies usually make a effort so would encourage some men

Maybe they assume that lots of people will be on holiday from about May to end of September and there will be less demand in the summer months? Not so true as the dance scene expands of course.
