    Re: Censorship

Most censorship in films detracts substantially from it - Im reminded of a someones comment about the film "Repo Man" where some mexicans were extremely offended to be called "melon farmers" - turns out that bit was dubbed Although one film where at least one scene was improved by censorship, was Aliens - where Hudson is being dragged to his death they removed his dialogue, but anyone can lip read THAT and with such a cacophony of gunfire etc..his death was all the better for removing the emphasis from the dialogue...strangely

Auto-censors are useful because when people break out the swear words, you get to tell them off for swearing AND for bypassing the auto-censor. Also, there's a good correlation between people who get offended by auto-censors and people who shouldn't be on the internet.

Talking of surreptitious forum censorship, I've got a soft spot for the forum that, rather than banning undesirables, silently ignores 1-10% of their HTTP requests. It's very effective, with minimal drama.

There's also a good correlation between people who make unwarranted assertions of correlations and people who have their head up their fundament.
