What exactly is 'the mark' or 'marks' and how would one going about infringing one?

Is it the Logo and how its written, or is it the generic name?

This is the key question. It's notable how none of Billy's responses actually answer it.

We will object to words, logos, pictures or other signs which
are unlikely to be seen as a trade mark by the public.
    For example, marks which:

It appears to my untrained intellect that Billy's application should have failed on a number of points.
It also appears that the IPO were not doing their job properly in granting registration.

    Re: LEROC Trademark

I e-mailed CentralEnquiries@ipo.gov.uk and asked: "Please could you clarify the meaning of the words: "Mark Text: LEROC" on that page?"

    and got this response:

The protection provided is for the image that is on the register and for the goods and services listed.
The text is just clarifying the letters within the images.

    Hope that helps.

    John
does that mean it is the logo that is on the register that is trademarked?
The text in the notices is simply "for information".

Ah, that makes sense. So it's not the word itself, just that particular stylisation of the word, which is trademarked.

    Mystery solved

    Hang on a minute, Scooby.
That only answers the mystery of the Ceroc-alike logo.

Why does Billy, on his website, claim to have trademarked the word LEROC®?

    Re: LEROC Trademark

since continued posting on this thread advertises Billy C and his trademarks, is it time to lock this thread and let it disappear into the ether?

So where does this actually leave us?

I could do with a Lory style summary here.
