So brand names mean nothing? Why do companys bother having them then?

Within the world of MJ teaching, the huge influence of Ceroc sets a default standard. Most MJ nights follow that standard. Some are better, some are worse - but there's not a vast amount of difference, compared to salsa or AT venues, which are all unique.

So, yes, "favourite venue" for an MJ class night is mostly down to a matter of personal taste, there are very few uniquely good / bad MJ teachers around.

Not in the sense of providing assurance of quality, no.

I've never been to "Ceroc" as an overarching entity, but I have been to individual Ceroc classes and freestyles. Same for LeRoc - I don't dance at "LeRoc", I dance at Planet LeRoc, Cardiff. I couldn't give a monkey's what the class is called, as long as it's reasonably good. In this area, the Planet LeRoc class is more to my taste, but that has nothing to do with the brand name.
