I don't know what miles and p's are, but I know I have to pay an amount every year just to own my car, even if I never move it out of its parking spot.
I wouldn't count those costs towards "dance miles" (whatever miles are).

It is different if the car costs are partly paid by an employer, as the base cost (owning but never using the car in a year) has to be apportioned between business and pleasure and dancing.

But recently I seem to be developing a carbon footprint the size of Yeti and constantly filling my cars with petrol a lot of it is dance related!

So just how many 'dance miles' are we generating each week driving to different venues? I try to get out a couple of times a week and on average that runs out at about 80 miles, but last week it was around 160, I'll do another 200+ this weekend to and from Swish.

I'll own up to the 50 - 100 miles range each week, what's your average dance mileage?
I saw this thread title a couple of days ago, but didn't read the thread until I had some pedometer data to contribute. Now I find it's about cars, not footsteps.

Anyway, in driving for dance, I guess I do about 100 km in an average week (currently defined as 2 tango classes, 1 ceroc class, 1 milonga or ceroc party). If I went to my local venue for the ceroc class, that would drop to about 80 km, but I go where I have friends and the club is clean and modern and has good food.

Now, where do I post my pedometer data on how many "dance steps" I do each week?

Now that would be an interesting thread I'll have to pick up a cheap pedometer from somewhere and try that. I've got a HRM somewhere as well but the receiver unit for that is a bit bulky

I took a pedometer to three events one week last year.
    Class 1 9500 steps,
    Class 2 10400 steps,
    Party night >20000 steps.
Told you I averaged big dance numbers.
Just as well there was a day of relative rest between each event.

I guess I'm a lazy lead. I found a typical class night (dancing most tracks) was only 2000-3000 steps.

I console myself with thinking I have concentrated on providing a smooth, gentle lead. Maybe it was so smooth and gentle that the pedometer could not detect it.

(My records were actually for total steps in the day, so my estimate is based on the difference between days I went dancing and days I did not. This week I will try wearing the pedometer only when dancing, and see what I get.)

As a general rough rule; 5 miles is about 8 kilometers.

I wore one once dancing. It fell off!

So I wore it again. Upto about 7pm when I left I had registered 750 steps (yeah I'm lazy) for the whole day. It ended up at about 5,000 but I'm sure it wasn't picking up everystep. I know step backs weren't adding to the total. Maybe I needed more bounce (god forbid).

Re: What's your average weekly dance mileage?

Luckily, I don't do that much. I will drive to class once a week, but am usually giving a lift to someone coming back (will be 2 people soon), and drive there for two reasons - a) it takes 1/3 of the time to get home (which means I can stay later dancing and still get up in the morning!), I used to take the bus, but it took ages and b) since I've not been driving that long, it means I get to take the car out during the week, otherwise I've found that my driving gets very rusty (although that's less the case now than it was).

I don't go to freestyles every week, though I will drive when I do, and again, there will be two of us usually (and now three, probably). Up to now I've only done one weekender a year. First one my friend drove as I was still learning, and the last one I gave someone a lift down to Camber. Next one I'll also be giving one person a lift down, and there will be three of us in the car going to Southport (which means I'm going to have to cut down on the clothes I can take )

Sort of - courtesy of BMI

This was booked weeks ago, to come and visit Beo before we knew that he had a job down here and would be moving down.

Now if you'd asked about relationship mileage...

Let's just say that we have a joint share in the hole in the ozone layer at the moment...

    Definitely.
I really enjoyed THAT dance last night.
    Twirly,
What fraction of a Sleaze Factor point did you award? You didn't actually say a number.
But maybe that smile takes it back?

Of course not... was referring to all the flights that Beo and I have had to do till now... our carbon footprint is mammoth-sized

It was more your face when you figured out who I was I think just 0.5... negligible on the SF factor I'm afraid. Fun dance though!

Re: What's your average weekly dance mileage?

Hmmm. I guess that the last 2 years, I've done something probably between 50,000 and 75,000 miles a year for dancing.

So, I guess that's an average of about 1000-1500 miles per week!

    Do I "win"?

but you must remove the "professional" mileage.

cause that makes me the winner

This year I'm likely to travel over 50,000 miles... so I'm at c. 1000 miles a week. And no professional mileage anywhere
