St. Albans - end of an era.......

It was announced tonight at Ceroc St. Albans that it was the last night for the teacher Mick, partner Jo and DJ Jon Brett.

They have done a fantastic job (with the rest of the crew) in building it up to the regular 200+ each Thursday.

They will be holding (as independents) a regular Monday class (with 3 lessons) at University of Hatfield (the Hutton? centre) - starting with the opening on Feb 18th.

    Best wishes to them!

And good luck to the new teacher/DJ at St. Albans.

I believe the new classes start on Feb 18th, and are at

    Hutton Hall

Shame really as this clashes with WCS at Lee Eastons at Trent Park, but as the freestyle lasts until 11:30, I might be able get in for the last 45 minutes or so.

Not sure what St Albans your talking about

I went twice maybe a wednesday thought it was thursday ?, front desk were rude and indifferent and was about 30 people there of which 20 absolute beginners

Living in Hemel at the time I was naturally disappointed. This was about 3 yrs ago so it may have changed

If they get 200+ regulars why hand it over ??

I went to the town hall which in the room I went to could hold about 75/85 max

That's a shame, they'd built up a very good venue there.

I wonder who'll be taking over?

It moved from the Town Hall a while ago, I've been quite a few times recently and I'd say the only downside was, it was 'too' busy!

I should imagine CerocMetro will still run it.. its the teachers and the DJ, who've left.

You have the wrong venue there Stew baby.

The teacher is a guy, cant remember his name now, but built like a brick sh1t house and in my humble opinion one of the best teachers to walk the earth.

Bit cheeky to announce their new venue during a Ceroc class though...?

Mick & Jo have been teaching (with Jon Brett DJing) at the Marlborough school for the past 18 months or so on Thursdays. In that time (and in my personal opinion) Mick's teaching style has caused the classes to grow to the 200+ size it now is. I myself started attending about a 9 months ago, and via word of mouth I got at least a dozen or so regulars from Bedford to try Mick's classes, and most of them stayed. One of the + points for me was his 3 class format. His 2nd routine was typically more advanced than anything done by any other Ceroc venue I have attended (and I dance 6 times a week all over ). His 3rd (intermediate/advanced) class was typically of the standard you would expect from advanced workshops or a weekender class. So he attracted and kept more experienced dancers. Whereas most other venues typically rely on churning new members through the door, with little retention, which invaribly pisses off experienced dancers.

The only problem was the venue was too popular, and so some people stopped coming along, as there was insufficient room to dance or park!

I suspect that most people who attend St Albans do so for Mick/Jo/JB, so I suspect a fair number of the experienced dancers will follow. The one plus point for Ceroc St Albans is that there will be more room in both the Car PArk and the dance floor now.

Yes. In Micks own words "the **** will probably hit the fan tomorrow!"

I also believe that Simon Rich and Nicole have also left, to teach for Ginger Jive I think. Could someone confirm?

Heaven forbid for a teacher to tell his class where he is going to teach

Looks like I missed a great venue then

Advertising a competitor venue whilst being employed as a Ceroc teacher seems, umm, a little... unusual.. to me.

Blimey, Stewart, where've you been the past 18 months? It's not as if no-one's ever mentioned the place before.

Yes. At the end of the 3rd class, Mick annouced a freestyle tomorrow, and then something to the effect of

Some sad news, tonight is the last night for Jo, Jon and myself. We have decided to move on and will no longer be teaching here. Thursday night will continue with new staff here. Been a pleasure teaching you and watching this venue grow over the last 18 months. We are opening our own venue in Hatfield from Feb 18th on Monday nights. 3 class format as we taught here, freestyle until 11:30.

That was it, pretty much. Then a chap (regular dancer) whose name I don;t know went up on stage and thanked Mick+Jo, and they got another around of cheers and applause.

There was some confusion with people thinking it was at the deHavilland Hall in Hatfield, whereas infact it was the Hutton Hall.

Surely etiquette dictates that they should throw a party to do it?

Shame, the DeHavilland Hall is wonderful. What's Hutton Hall like?

No idea, apparently Ceroc use to use it, many many moons ago.

I was told it was larger, with plenty of parking. So will wait and see.

And call it a "18-month celebration do", presumably?
