We seem to have this comment pretty much every time and yet we have never been more than 10 ladies over at any event and it was only 7 ladies over on Friday!

Can we please have a Utopia where 'Superstition' and 'The same love that made me laugh' (and a few others) aren't played.........
Again, perception is a funny thing! Both SF and I played many tracks that we have never played before last Friday. In my set it was around 40% of tracks that I have had for a while and never ever played and I think SF's set was closer to 50-60%. As for Superstition and TSLTMML, guilty as charged but you do have to remember Cru that with so many new faces through the door we do have to play stuff that 1.) people recognize as well as 2.) tracks that some people who are new to a Chill out night may never have danced too. Of course you have been to virtually every UTOPIA so you will hear some favourites re-played - and both of these are absolute classics. Superstition still fills a floor faster than virtually any record I've ever played and I still get at least 2 people come up after TSLTMML every time it's played to ask what that great track was...

So I don't know... is it good to have a handful of signature tracks that get played every month or not? Bearing in mind that we get through maybe 80-90 tracks in a night and the vast majority are not recycled every month in the same way.

I agree, they are great tracks, but I guess it's like having your favourite ice cream, it starts turning your stomach if you eat it every day. As you say, I've been to virtually all the Utopias (Twickenham) and it's the only one that i've not had an awesome night at, but it was still a good night for me. Not bad %'s when the expectations are so high.

I'm guilty of those two tracks.

The first one came to the forefront of my mind after having an amazing dance to it with Freudian Hips at Southport . I thought it had so much in it to play with, so I'm quite surprised that someone as talented as you Sarah would find it uninspiring.

I must admit it was great fun watching people at Utopia trying to hit the breaks though.

Kyle and Sarah even did a to it.

The second 'squeaky' one was Blues Stew by Kenny Neal which is a very popular blues/WCS track.

Funny that’s one of the most inspiring bits of music I ever dance to (the squeeky harmonica one) who would be a DJ

I think the problem with How Long Can A Fool Go Wrong is precisely that Kyle and Sarah did that routine to it. Seeing that makes you want to throw in the whole airing cupboard, not just the towel It's the same with 'Pump It' albeit a very different style of song.

More generally, squeaky blues as it shall henceforth be known is a genre I find quite tricky to dance to because there is so much in it to play with and certainly hearing too much of it consecutively tends to make it blend into one long harmonica-fest

Just a particularly choice lyric on the latest FabricLive CD.

Did you have anyone in mind SF?

    Meanwhile, back on topic...

There's nothing to be "guilty" about. Like I said, you can't please all the people all the time and they are tracks that I don't enjoy particularly because: they are very squeaky, they have also (as already shown) been danced to amazingly by some of the professionals, and the first of the two that was played at Utopia seems to go on and on and on and just when you think it's finishing it comes back *again* . They are very challenging tracks - but in my mind challenging and inspiring are two different things and although they are challenging I do not find myself inspired by them.

Interestingly enough, seeing as no-one is openly agreeing with me on this , I was actually standing with some fellow forumites when the second squeaky track was played... I said something along the lines of "Haven't we just had a track with a squeaky harmonica in it? I really don't like them... Is it the same one?", at which point I was reliably informed by a highly regarded DJ that it *was* a different track but that they (the DJ in question) couldn't stand them (squeaky tracks) either!

As one of the 'fellow forumites' Sparkles mentionned, I also thought the DJ had played the same track twice. I didn't realise there were 2 'squeaky harmonica' tracks.

They are wierd tracks. I really dislike them as music, but enjoy dancing to them.
