    Re: Dance related insults!

OK, I'll confess... almost 2 weeks ago I was dancing with a dancer in Edinburgh...

I didn't think I was choosing bad moves, but she was determined she was doing her own thing... eventually, and yes I do feel bad, I'd had enough...

After one particularly confusing set of movements where I eventually founder in a lh to rh hold, ready to be led again... as I led her in for a first move I offered "that was a great move, I wish I'd thought of that one".

Yes, it hit the mark, and yes she did follow thereafter a little better, but she's not on my "rush to get another dance" list.

damn, I feel like a bad person, now...

I guess if you are a fat ugly chick, you might find something in my post to object to (most fat ugly chicks find something to object to, to distract from the fact they eat too much)... even if I was only posting another formites opinion of the local dance scene in my area and not my own.

I have not commented on this myself...

Why proxy me when I simply state another persons observations?

Don't kill me for a simple comment that I am passing on....

Martin, I can't believe that you are the same person who made the really sensitive comments earlier on . You have gone from hero to ..... Well perhaps the "fat chicks" are eating to comfort themselves after some rough comments.

Hold on hold on one badly worded post should not be enough to condemn the man.

Might not have been the best of Martin's posts but he is a fair and straight up bloke most of the time.

    Re: Dance related insults!

I've read this thread and, very slightly, lost a little bit of respect for some people. Most of the people I've lost respect for are the people who are being talked about. The "very slightly" is there for the way people have reacted to refusal or said they would react to refusal.

On the subject of how you should react when refused, the key word is "dignity". But, it seems to me that the key word for some people is "revenge". Or even "I'll teach him/her a lesson" (yes, I know it's not a single word ). Your response in the face of rudeness, wherever it is encountered, should be dignified.

I have recently changed my short talk I give about being asked to dance. I now say that ladies should try to say "yes" when asked to dance. But they shouldn't have to dance with anybody if they really don't want to. They should remember that a refusal will be taken personally and may be seen as an insult - after all, you are at a dance class, you obviously want to dance. Therefore a blunt refusal says "I want to dance, just not with YOU!" After all, we're not in a night club, we're at a dance class and a request for a dance is just that, there is no hidden agenda (usually). The rule for the guys is that they must always say "yes" and smile - if they want a break I tell them to hide outside.

No one is condemning him. He just, as you say, worded a post badly, which then made him sound insensitive to the overweight, not so pretty women who may already feel bad about not looking like the stereotypical 'fit chick'

He asks me to dance all the time. needless to say, diet started.
Hold on just a darn tooting cotton picking moment there pilgrim.

I dont normally ask the young slim girlies to dance as i find the more mature and slightly more padded ladies are usually better dancers.

I'm with Martin on this one*. There is no reason why you can't quote somebody else and not have those words attributed as your own opinion. Next thing we'll have The Times editor being accused of murder because a murder was reported on the front page.

*This doesn't mean I think Cruella is anything other than lovely. The last time I saw her she had a perfect figure, a pretty face, nice eyes, great hair, was a lovely mover and was beautifully fragrant. Although I haven't seen her for a while and she could have eaten like a pig over Christmas

Apologies Andy, I hope I am never less than polite and dignified in dealing with male dancers - whoever they are. I know the revenge idea is just plain childish but what would have been a dignified response to "Bugger Off". I would love to know so that I can use it in future?

There's a lesson in there somewhere...
    Lets see

Absolutely and my posts were tongue in cheek (Obviously smilies have lost their impact through overuse ) But I don't think Martins comment on 'Fat, Ugly, Chicks' was really doing himself any favours!

Flattery works well on me, as any woman. (Even if it is just because you're scared!)

I love it - if only I had the nerve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mind you it will make me smile next time anyone says it.

However, i am now totally convinced that most men only really want to dance with certain types of people and only dance with ordinary mortals if there is no other option. I will think twice before I ask anyone again.

    what types of people ?

pearsonaly I think most men like to dance with someone who looks like they wan't to dance ie standing on the edge of the floor, and perhaps smiling or jigging about to the music. They don't seem to wan't fight past a line of girls to get the someone sitting next to a bloke. I disscoverd this when I wen't to Wolverhampton over Xmas with Gerry, I neaver got asked once when we were sat next to each other.

    I might be wrong

Don't let one idiot put you off!

I, like alot of women, found it a bit difficult to ask at first (one of my friends still rarely asks after 2 1/2 years of dancing!). I got over it by initially asking just those people who'd asked me before, as if they'd asked me more than once, then it was evidence that they liked to dance with me. Why not try that sort of tactic whilst you build your confidence back up again?

I now feel reasonably comfortable asking most people, and know that my ability to have a good night is in my own hands. Whereas my friend is often hanging around waiting for people to ask her still...

Just remember, as others have said, that most dancers are pleasent, courteous people who usually say yes, or have a good excuse for a no (as you will have from time to time).

Put this one behind you where he belongs
