What brilliant imagery! Can imagine them sorting out world peace and global warming while they're there.

Yes me too!!!! and it would be gorgeous! Fletch in her red catsuit, Twirlie B in the infamous holiday shot and Lory's profile pic! Watch out world and especially rude men!

Just want to say sympathy for Mouse - know how you felt. Especially when it is "only joking" as if that absolves them!

If this ever happens to you again, you can snap back "that's odd I was just thinking exactly the same thing, I am really struggling to follow your clumsy attempts at leading." Or if you really want to screw with a lead's mind when you're dancing ask "are you stepping on the beat, or stepping on the off beat?"

Just remember, as you are brought back to face in the first move, a knee in the wrong place will really knock the wind out of a lead's sails "opps sorry, did my leg catch you?"

My heart goes out to both you and my lovely little Easily Led, who is a joy to dancing with

Some might think that, but I could not possibly comment.

Interesting responses I've received when asking Ladies to dance:-

Kent House - "You're not up to it" (forumite)

Fulham - "I don't dance with sleazes" (forumite in refusers' row)

Basildon - "Talk to the hand" (hand offered in neckbreak position)

Worcester - "Why is everyone here so rude? Can't you see I'm talking!"

I didn't get as far as asking, I sat next to someone I knew and was told 'For f**k sake why does everyone keep sitting next to me when I'm trying to chill, Go Away!'
    Needless to say, I did!

Do we have a list of acceptable compelemts anywhere? (other than asking for another dance, which is usually a fairly positive sign) - whenever I comment about someone's style it seems to be taken the wrong way

I didnt htink i was very funny and when we carried on dancing i almost fell over as i was still in shock at such a blunt comment even if it was a joke lol.
I did a similar thing last week

Trying to work on a move in a AT class, and having some difficulty with it, I said (in jest), "Ooh, it's your fault, you're just useless!" - this was to a regular partner, and she knows me well, but still she was upset, I had to spend the entire evening grovelling and asking for forgiveness.

Unfortunately, people are often tactless and rude; they make hurtful comments. It happens to all of us. We've all caused offence, I'm sure. The only thing we can try to do is to learn from these experiences, and do our best to avoid doing so in future.

Like others have said here if someone was a frequent dance partner and I knew they'd understand (like someone who knows I hate Now I Can Dance finding me for that song, with a big grin on their face might well get a "I hate you"). But given how quickly confidence can decline (I mean who knows if someone you don't really know has been building in courage to ask you to dance) then I find this sort of refusal unacceptable.

I've seen a lot of great dancers have moments of doubt about their abilities. I'm sure if someone is on a down and someone else says "you're pants" (completely different from someone saying "your pants") then they might well feel inclined to agree bringing them down more. It seems an ill-judged thing to say to someone who they don't know very well.

Again I can see that, if I was dancing with a friend who, at the beginning of the dance said "I just feel like I can't dance at all this evening" and then proceeds to dance amazingly then I might make this sort of comment but only if I think that they'll realize that I'm referring to their comment and I'm really not genuinely agreeing with them.

    Re: Dance related insults!

I was at Breeze last year and a bloke asked me to dance. While we were dancing he said 'I saw you yesterday and wanted to ask you but I always ask the young ones to dance first.' I was gobsmacked. I should have walked off the floor at that point but I couldn't believe he actually meant what he said, but the more I thought about though it the less doubt there was. I had a horrid day after that.

    Re: Dance related insults!

At Stockport on Saturday, I was drunk, it was nearly midnight and I was putting a bit too much effort in at times and I didn't sit out much at all.

Lets say I was slightly moist and had lost track of the time to time a change of clothing correctly.

But to be told within the first 5 seconds of the dance by someone was a bit pointless whether I was with it in mind or not.

Needless to say it gave me a full 3+ minutes to take control and annoy said person with extra spins etc.

There's a lesson in there somewhere...

Had the opposite just recently a forumite came to Gold Coast... I pointed out out all the good dancers...

He said, OK, I just go for the fit, good looking chicks...

I wanted to object, but it was true, the good looking fit chicks, were the best dancers...

He did say... strange, it is not the same in the UK...

You've either just insulted all the UK female dancers or complimented them all, I'm sure you'll find out which on your next visit.
