We still have racism, homophobia and other evils - we probably always will - but at least they're recognised as evil now.
Just take homophobia - I remember
Section 28, now that was a truly nasty piece of legislation, and that was only 20 years ago. But in that time, we've come from there to equality in the age of consent and civil unions for same-sex partnerships. That's not fashion, that's a genuine and real shift in perceptions - to the better.
And to dismiss it as "fashion" is an insult to the people who fought for those basic human rights.
