On several occassions I've asked someone to dance and had the response "I would love to but do you mind if we wait for the next track" and I've done the reverse back, no-one seems to take offence...

What it does mean is you a get a couple of minutes beforehand to chat to the person you're going to dance with (I think this is called...if I remember..."Socialising"?) and I don't regard that as a bad thing.

Also for me, bad tracks are necessary for the opportunity to take a break without missing a good track...otherwise I might not stop at all!

    Oh yeah.

I guess, dancing to that, I should try to dance like we're dueting (accompanied by a particularly uninspired drummer) rather than dancing to reflect the music. I get no practice at this, probably because I don't know any DJs who pull out their 80s synthesisers and put the drumbeat on loop. There's always something to be inspired by.

I would rather have a great dance with someone because they were enjoying the music and the dance, than go through the motions to some pap like Now That I Can Dance - Tina Arena for example. Ohhh I feel dirty for just saying the title eughhh eughhh... OK I need to go wash.... arghhhh

I really don't know why that song is so derided Admittedly if you are gonna play a Tina Arena track I'd prefer 'Chains' but I am not tired of 'Now I Can Dance' either - maybe it gets overplayed where you go Stokie?

More generally I rarely refuse or ask to postpone a dance based on the track playing. If it's a faster track or a style of music I don't particularly like then I might do my best to avoid being asked but if I am asked I will do my best to have a good dance to it. Unfortunately, as my attempts to dance to 'Hello Dolly' (faster than it seems - BPM anyone?) and the Spiderman tune on Fri night demonstrated, sometimes that best just ain't good enough

Agree with Stokie on the Now I Can Dance Tina Arena song.. It does get way overplayed in non Ceroc venues in Yorkshire and hence now when I hear it I get like Stokie.... Guess that happens with most overplayed songs....

I went to a freestyle on Friday (where I personally didn't find the music that inspiring) and I found out that I "circular Ceroc" to such music and I also march (i.e. left right left right left right)

When I was first exiled to the N West you could take it as fact that during the night you would hear: Now I can dance; Fucco el Fucco (or whatever); I need to Know; Moondance; all of Touch and Go; Latin Lover and Dance the night away. Things have changed ... besides Toucj & Go, rarely hear any of the above and, at the right time and place, would dance to any of them and enjoy them. I suppose it depends how often you hear them. Even the best track can loose its appeal if overplayed (see Vem Vet as a prime example).

    turn down/rain-check a dance? but there are only a finite number of tracks going to be played - why would I want to cut down on the number of dances I have? {}

Strange thing about music association... a song comes on the car or home radio and I think "Ooh thats a Ceroc song!". Even worse I can often remember a significant dance to it...

I remember being mesmerised by Yuko and (her partner?) competing to it at The Troxy Ceroc Champs last year.

I love dancing to Moondance, have only heard it a couple of times though .

Now this Vem Vet: what is this song? Because I once asked a DJ to write down the name of a song he had just played which I really liked and he said Vem Vet, but when I youtubed it, it just seemed to be an acoustic female singer songwriter track. I later found out that the track I really liked was called Played a-live by Safri Duo (also known as the bongo song). Could anyone clear up my confusion?

    Thanks!

    Dan

I guess it is a bit acoustic...

Even though it is a bit overplayed, I still like dancing to it...

Think I heard a version in English recently – most peculiar.

Thanks ducasi! Nope I've never heard this at a MJ night, the DJ must have been wrong I guess. I quite like it, wouldn't mind dancing to it someday.

There is alot to be said for accepting requests for a dance to song that you would normally avoid. I frequently end up dancing to songs that I can't stand as I am asked for a dance (especially at a full on boom-boom ceroc night) and it forces me to try a bit harder to make a good dance out of it. And sometimes I get a better dance than I would have expected to a horrible song.

Plus, there's the fact that the more you hear something, the more it grows on you.

This is the reason that Radio stations playing an inane song can make it a hit. It sort of gets under the nations skin and while initially they think it's nothing, due to repetive playing on the radio they grow to like it.

On the other hand some great music that never gets aired on the airwaves sinks into obsurity.

    It is very unfair.

Simularly at Ceroc, we can be brainwashed into liking a track through repatitively having our ears exposed to the rubbish.

Vem Vet - Lisa Ekdahl - Jazzy Swinging Chilled 126BPM

Played-a-Live (TheBongo Song) - Safri Duo - African Introed Percussive &Synthy 136 BPM

Both still seem to hit hit the spot at certain times depite being played to death - requests for the Bongo song however may be met with a D.J. eyeball rolling gesture lol ....

I am glad I am not the only one who hates this record ! Anyone that knows me know that I NEVER dance to this, in fact people call it 'my record' because they know how much I hate it. I am sure that I did like it once but it definately is overplayed on the ceroc scene. Trouble is it always packs the dancefloor. It is one of the only two records that I refuse to dance to (however it works and no-one has asked me to dance to any of them for some time) but I always dance the next record with them.

The other one is the Scissor Sisters, ironically they both are about dancing, but I have been known to bend the rule on that one occasionally.
Quite a lot of stuff played is alien to me, but I attempt to dance to most things

I love browsing through some of these titles as I think I've never heard of them and going "oh THAT one!"
