Its laughable really, one minute people are worried that 'Ceroc' are taking over the world and that we 'need' more competiton and the next minute, there are moans that there's too much choice
Somewhat related to Sparkles thread about freestyles v weekenders.
Several people have commented about the lack of choice for dancing. This Sunday, in the Northwest we have SIX clubs on within a radius of about 15 miles. We simply don't have enough dancers, especially on a Sunday, to support that many. Its a real shame ... for many years there was only SwingRoc's event ... then a whole host of other clubs have opened up. Some of the clubs cut their prices, now one is going FREE.
I'm not sure how this is going to turn out but it may well be a case of those with the deepest pockets who survive, waiting for all the others to go out of business ... and so nobody is likely to win

No great concentration of good dancers like there used to be but Chester (Mondays) and Bowden (Tues) stand out. Stockport has some good followers and some reasonable leads and the same goes for Dance NWest at Bromborough (Thurs) and Prestwich (Monday), or at least that was true when I last went a year ago ..... other than good dancers are a bit sparse. OF COURSE, what one person calls a 'good dancer' may well vary from the next
I agree though the standard is very low this way compared to other places I have been. I think it's down to lack of workshops, and I don't just mean jive workshops. You can only go so far with it to make it look reasonably good, but as it's so flexible, we need other workshops up here, esp WCS for a bit of footwork (what's that again?) and latin. There's nothing worse than watching people look too samey to different types of music. It's nice to vary it a bit.
Danced at Birmingham once, was quite impressed with the standard there.
