My tuppenorth to this is that I always used to find it really difficult to lead ladies who did (what I perceived as) swing footwork when I had experience only in MJ. Since starting to learn WCS I have become a lot more comfortable in that situation though maybe that's simply that I have more dancing experience full stop rather than the WCS experience specifically?
there's a bit more info here...
But basically NASDE (the organisation that deals with the 12 biggest comp for classic, showcase and strictly swing pro/champions) rules require 80% of swing content in classic and 50% in showcase (to allow for lifts). Given that there is more and more tricks in classic routines, some judges feel at times that this does violate the 80% rule. I was at BBB (ref the link above) and did have a look at the scoring sheets and it is true that all couples received at least one 'borderline swing content violation' (incl. J&T, who won the division), some receiving several 'swing content violations' therefore were disqualified (I remember at least one couple).
Forgot to add too that some wcs pros seemed to have said that they believed MJ would qualify as being 'swing' (look at the swing thread on the MJDA forum).
