i suppose it depends on the countries - but transfering money between european accounts to British (or vice versa) is simply a case of finding out the IBAN code, and paying a 20euro (£14) fee for the transfer.
I was talking to a friend of mine this week who sends her mum money to Cuba each month and was shocked by how much it costs to send and receive. Just wondered if anyone knows a cheaper way of doing this other than by Western Union.

I have 3 friends who regularly send money to South America and Israel and they only know of Western Union which seems to be a bit of a rip off to me.
As DS says, international transfers are good, fees depends on your bank - I chose mine especially for that and it's 7 pounds.
I wonder if using paypal would be cheaper ?
Moneygram are the other big transmitter (they have a deal with the Post Office), but their fees mostly shadow Western Union. There are others out there but in a lot of cases they operation within the various ethnic communities and you have to somebody within the community.
Good grief.
Find a bank that operates in both countries and set up one account. There'll be exchange rates to account for but otherwise...
Bank transfers, Western Union and so forth are a) for one-off transfers and b) (for Western Union) anonymity.
this seems to be a good place to start
Unsurprisingly, that web site doesn't seem to cover Cuba – getting money into Cuba within the terms of the US trade embargo is tricky. Many of the obvious easy options just won't work.
This Google search should provide a few good leads though...
